So... what does it say about me that my number one hero is Andy Sandimas ?
Oh right, that I'm a sex-positive open-minded liberal who doesn't hate the gheys and won't be a major denialist about a scientific theory with an enormous preponderance of evidence to suit a tale which even the deepest of true-believers must be able to realize can at-best, be deemed metaphorical?
It's not like using stories (read things that didn't actually happen) to teach values is unknown to the Christian God is it ? I mean Jesus did that all the time - there is even a special name for it "parables"... BrideOfChrist... without even questioning your faith - have you ever considered that Genesis may be a parable (actually a collection of them) too ?
I mean, the lost son wasn't a specific real person. Lazarus and the rich man didn't refer to somebody Jesus actually met... oh but that other rich guy - the one who asked how to go to heaven and when told "give your wealth to the poor" chose hell instead, he wasn't a parable (kina means you Fundies should SERIOUSLY rethink your whole attitude to wellfare because people - you are shrinking the needle and breeding larger camels at a very alarming rate)...
Anyway, back on topic... here's the really good bit for you - Darwin was a Christian, in fact the guy had a PHD in Theology - he didn't set out to become a scientist, he studied nature and then did years of painstaking scientific analysis of his recorded findings before publishing a sensible theory about them. The same theory that, at that very same time, was also being developed by at least three other people in the world who had done similar studies - Darwin just beat them to the punch.
The real problem came in when Darwin employed a Journalist to explain the theory in layman's terms. This was good - because now everybody thought they understood the theory of evolution... and it was very bad because now everybody thought they understood the theory of evolution.
Hint: the phrases "survival of the fittest" and "natural selection" does not exist ANYWHERE in ANYTHING Darwin ever wrote. They were coined by his jounalist friend as simplified explanations for complex processes so people could grasp the IDEA.
Darwin never suggested that his theory precludes God, quite the contrary he believed he had learned something of HOW God chooses to do things. The fact that his theory works just as well with or without God's presence does not - really - represent any danger to people of faith. The rejection of the facts before your very eyes to persist in a literal reading of something that probably was never meant to be literally read ... well that does represent a danger, a major danger to the peace and prosperity of our entire species. We call that danger "Fundamentalism" - when it comes from Islam, they fly planes into buildings. When it comes from Christians they burn people at stakes (and lately they burn books, but they stole that one from Hitler so I guess it just proves that originality was never much of a Fundy trait).
Meh... enough ranting at stupidity.
Suffice to say girl... you really need to check your facts before making wild public statements because there's no room in your mouth for your OTHER foot as well.
