Quote# 55452

The Campbell's Soup Company purchased a pair of two-page advertisement spreads in one of the nation's leading pro-homosexual magazines, including an ad highlighting a lesbian couple and their son, reports the American Family Association.

The advertisement for Campbell's product Swanson's broth, the AFA reports, appears in both the December 2008 and January 2009 issues of The Advocate, a magazine that touts itself with the line, "For 40 years, setting the standard in LGBT journalism."

The AFA, however, objects to the ad, particularly the frame that depicts the lesbian couple and their son, claiming that the soup company is contributing to homosexual advocacy.

"Not only did the ads cost Campbell's a chunk of money," writes AFA Chairman Donald Wildmon in an email alert, "but they also sent a message that homosexual parents constitute a family and are worthy of support."

Screw AFA. I still don't get why these ijits are so afraid of homosexuality.

"The AFA, however, objects to the ad,"

Mr Spak, however, objects to the AFA, particularly when they claim everyone has to obey the rules of their imaginary man.

Hm. It's the New Year and, like most, I need to manage my weight better. Brown rice is better for me than white, and I particularly enjoy it if brown rice is cooked in chicken broth instead of water. It allows for more flavor and less butter or margarine to taste.

That's it, I'll buy brown rice and Swanson's broth next time I go to the store. Since I know what the real meaning of "pro-family" is and Swanson's and its parent company, Campbell's, are such for applauding families that don't fit a narrow mold of "what a family is supposed to be". Gotta encourage that.

Oh, the American Family Association would be ticked off if I supported this company? Tough. I'm not going to support anyone who acts like Saul did pre-conversion, persecuting God's people under the pretense of being "holier than Thou".

Why can't they and why shouldn't they, respectively? Just because you say so or you think your bible "god" says so is not a valid justification. These people think that they speak for the entirety of of the US an I for one think that it's high time that companies stop fold under pressure from the religious far right and let them realize just how insignificant the really are.

I remember a time not long ago when threats of boycott from these wingnut groups used to actually cause companies to pull ads like these. I'm glad this sort of economic terrorism doesn't work so well anymore and people are starting to see these fringe wackos for what they are.

Hey AFA, the last time I checked "family" didn't included "indoctrinating children with an agenda of bigotry and hatred driven by religion." You assholes wouldn't know love if it bit you on the ass... oh, kinky.

Being a penniless college student, I eat a lot of Campbell's soup. Knowing that it pisses off the AFA will make it taste a lot better.

Can i call a video games mag a "pro-video games" magazine?

Sounds just as silly as calling a gay people aimed magazine a "pro-homosexual magazine"

You know, just to complain about the articles.

"they also sent a message that homosexual parents constitute a family and are worthy of support."
Kudos to Campbell's!

Wait a moment; how did AFA find out about the ad? Who among them is a closet gay who reads magazines like that?
Homosexual advocacy sounds as inane as left-handed advocacy. Homosexuals exist, whether you like them to or not, stupid!

It's capitalism, dearie! If you don't like it, move to Cuba. [/sarcasm]
When you make advertisements you want your target group to identify themselves with the people in the ad. When Campbell's advertise in Christian magazines, they probably have a crucifix on the wall behind the heterosexual white couple, and make it absolutely clear that the couple are indeed married.
