Since atheists believe in evolution, why is the Jonah in the whale not plausible?
how are atheists sure there were no fish large enough for a man to be inside a whale without harm coming to him...is it possible for a fish like that to exist then become extinct in the grand scheme of evolution...evolution has no purpose or mind...why couldn't a large fish exist that would be able to carry a man in his stomach...or in another sack within the belly of a whale without harm...would atheists say its not evolutionarily possible and then turn around and say evolution has no purpose...besides don't atheists just say all miracles are "coincidence"...is it not coincidently possible or plausible for a different type of large fish live in the time of Noah that swallowed him and spit in on shore of his destination...if you want to say there is no evidence of a fish like that...i thought all fossils are proof of evolution...thats why we don't have transitional fossils for man...just pieces of bones while having full skeletons for dinosaurs...or does the atheists mind stop being open when it comes to religion and possibilities...showing the true closed mindedness of atheists...

Why is it not possible? Stomach acids, suffocation... need I go on?
Sure, it's theoretically possible for a fish that could've ate Jonah and allowed him to live inside to have existed, but that doesn't mean it's very fucking likely. For one it's been only a couple thousand years since the story of Jonah was written. Things don't evolve that fast, and we have no indication that there was ever any species that had any of the genetic mutations necessary to be able to digest things without very quickly killing them.
Also we have a huge amount of transitional fossils for man, dinosaur, and virtually every other animal. Do some research, douchebag.
is it not coincidently possible or plausible for a different type of large fish live in the time of Noah that swallowed him and spit in on shore of his destination
Not even remotely. Six thousand years is far too short for any noticable variation in species, and no such creature is known to exist.
First of all, whales aren't fish. They're mammals like Jonah.
Second...oh, why bother with this? Life is too short.
No. None of the things "fmko" said are possible. In fact, while not terribly offensive, this may be the most concentrated fail I've ever seen in a single fundy quote. If one could bottle this kind of fail one could lower the grade of every student on the planet.
"there were no fish large enough for a man to be inside a whale"
WHAT?
So... If I buy a big car, I can fit more baggage on my bicycle?
What bugs me is that this is some kind of argument against evolution. It is a remote, and by remote I mean almost impossible, chance that such a creature could have existed. However, one does not need evolution do completely discredit the story simple biology does all for us.
Well, it's technically possible. But while we're moving in the realm of possibilities, this one is on the same level as cyklops, bird-people and reverse gravity.
For the record, the Hebrew bible says "large fish", not whale. That is a late interpretation.
And it's a massive fail in biology.
Since atheists believe in evolution, why is the Jonah in the whale not plausible?
Because he would have been digested by stomach acids, as whales are not equipped for tenants.
According the the Bible God specifically "made" this fish for the sole purpose of swallowing Jonah
Jonah 1:17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
It does not record what it got up to after it had fulfiled its' purpose and had vomited up Jonah
It is certainly possible that a sea creature exist(s)(ed) that is large enough to have swallowed a man whole. It is also possible that it could have taken said sea creature more than three days to digest said human.
However, given said sea creature live(s)(ed) in the sea, it was likely swallowing water, and likely swallowed Jonah with water. Beyond that, there would be no continuous supply of oxygen for Jonah to breathe. So, he would have either drowned or suffocated long before the three days were up.
@ Lucretius
Perhaps, on reading your posting, we are really talking about a submarine that was pulled along by fishes - one that had palatial apartments inside with an organ like in the Disney 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.
why is the Jonah in the whale not plausible?
a different type of large fish live in the time of Noah
They (supposedly) live quite a long time apart... Bible Fail.
does the atheists mind stop being open when it comes to religion and possibilities
No, in fact we analyze your myths with much the same care we use to analyze science, much to the detriment of your mythology.
Actually, I read somewhere about a guy that got swallowed by the whale. He was one of the whale hunters, and his friends killed the beast 12 hours later. He was still alive, but his skin and hair turned white. He died 3 days later. Unfortunately, I can't find the source (and no, it's not the bible)
Has anyone bothered trying to replicate this? I might suggest fmko get closeup and personal with an Orca, since the filter feeders would never fit him into their mouths.
We'll check on the Orca in a week or two.
A few whales are toothed. Sperm whales, for example, but they tend to chew. To their credit, it's not quite as inane as claiming Jonah was swallowed by a pliosaur.
^^^
Please, please, please, can you give us the link to the site that claims Jonah was swallowed by a Pliosaur?
That's hilarious....
Do you know what chlorhydric acid is? Also called 'bile', it's very useful to break down food in the stomach as it's one of the most corrosive acid known to mankind. It's also what gives your vomit that distinctly unpleasant taste.
Since whales are mammals, they produce it too, for the same purpose: breaking down whatever they swallow. Lack of oxygen notwithstanding, you seem to be saying Jonas swam in bile, unharmed, for several days.
That's not faith, that's padded room-grade insanity. Off you go. Enjoy the nice, colorful pills!
There are fish big enough to hold a human. I think the Whale Shark qualifies. Not technically a whale though. The real problem would be oxygen supply. Then of course, acid might also be a problem if a human made it to the stomach.
Didn't make it all the way through the drivel.
re: Clown's comment
I read that story too, I read it in a book called 'The Bible: Tried, Tested, Triumphant'. If I recall correctly it had little to no citations so I'm not going to dig it out now to see if it's got the source mentioned. Long story short; it's bullshit. There is no way anyone could survive being swallowed by a whale for any amount of time. And why would a whale swallow a person anyway? The toothed ones would eat and kill you and the baleen ones are generally only interested in zooplankton.
[how are atheists sure there were no fish large enough for a man to be inside a whale without harm coming to him...]
Even if Jonah was eaten by a whale, it's called stomach acid. If he wasn't suffercated, he would have been digested.
Actually, I was being sarcastic only forgot my /EnOfSar sign. There is "famous" James Bartley story, to which I was refering, "Star of East" etc. Google "swallowed by whale" and you'll find it.
Whales are not fish.
I can't see how a man could survive for three days inside the stomach of another animal, no matter how large. You know, the lack of air, the stomach acid etc....
1) Whales aren't fish
2) You are a moron
3) Fuck off
why is the Jonah in the whale not plausible?
Sure. Pinocchio had plenty of room, air and light, inside Monstro - even lit a campfire inside there, that's how he got out. Jonah probably could have done the same.
Yes, it is theoretically possible for some species of whale to have existed (and since died off) big enough to swallow a man. In fact, we can be pretty certain that there was such a species at some point because there are fossils of similar sized ocean life. However, they existed in the very distant past, not as recently as six thousand years ago (or whatever you nutters are claiming as the date of creation now). Also, you run into problems like stomach acids and suffocation.
Also, we have loads of transitional fossils for humans, it's just that you lunatics refuse to accept them.
I was on the fence about this, until I read the last line. The writer sneers at atheists about being closed minded while obviously refusing to do even a minute's research him/herself. And no transitional fossils for humans? It takes some heavy duty bible-blinders to believe that.
fmko, your WTF! is in the mail
Confused?
