The bible didn't say anything about stopping slavery. It pretty much said slavery is fine. But it isn't the type of slavery you believe in. The slaves were treated as family. It would be the same as having a housecleaner or gardener today.

The chapter goes on to say that if, at the end of your term as a slave you decide you don't want to leave your wife and children, as your owner I'm allowed to drive a hole through your ear and mark you as my property until you die. And since your wife and daughters belong to me, guess what? That's right, I'm entitled to f*** them blind.

It is always funny how believers in the literal truth of the bible always try to explain why bibliclas slavery was different from other slavery, biblical atrocities (like the genocides ordered by god) were different from normal atrocities and why even the worst action commited by god against humans doesn´t contradict their belief that YHWH is a loving god with perfect morals ;)
