During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution.-James Madison; US President and signer of the Constitution
The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity.-John Adams; US President, signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man.-Thomas Jefferson; US President, author of the Declaration of Independence, and father of the Bill of Rights.
All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.-Thomas Paine; author of Common Sense.
I have found Christian dogma unintelligible. Early in life, I absenteed myself from Christian assemblies.-Benjamin Franklin; inventor, author, politician.
These men were some of the most influential driving forces behind the political formations of the United States. All of them have abandoned or rejected Christian dogma. They founded their national laws based on the writings of European Enlightenment authors such as Voltair or Locke, who also had rejected both Christian dogma, and the concept of the divine right of kings. Despite their having a profound dislike for Christianity, these men believed in freedom more then anything, and created a government for the people, by the people, were Christians could worship along with all other religions. One of the most offensive things I have ever come across, is the way you ignoramuses can say such lies and get away with it. These men were not Christians, and the United States is, was, and always should be, a secular democratic state.
