I just love the 600,000 years & the 2,000,000 years since the last eruptions of Yellowstone caldera. Since the Flood, was about 5,000 years ago and the oldest living tree is around 4,500 years, we probably can conjecture that Yellowstone last blew it's top in the days of Peleg
Quote:
Gen 10:25 "And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one [was] Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name [was] Joktan."
Just a thought

I love the fact that the Yellowstone "Hot Spot" (volcano) has erupted every 600,000 to 2,000,000 years for the past 100 Million years (more or less), making the the first eruption (that we know of) more than 99 Million Years before Earth was created by God.
As pointed out, the oldest known living tree is @9,500 years old. Also, the flood never happened. Svend fails at all levels.
"Divided" how? Literally? Metaphorically?
I wish we could read ancient Hebrew, so we knew exactly what this passage was talking about, and not just make assumptions based on circular reasoning.
"Nope...the oldest known is a Norway Spruce, which clones itself from its root system. Parts of the root system have been dated to be about 9950 years old."
And then there's King Clone, a bush a couple thousand years older still...
"the oldest living tree is around 4,500 years"
The oldest people are only a little over 100 years old. So the earth can't be older than about 120 years.
I conjecture that you are a dolt. No, wait. That's a theory because I can back it up with evidence and predict by that theory that you will make even more stupid remarks shortly.
"Since the Flood"
You mean the great, magical flood which has no evidence? Good job, twit.
"and the oldest living tree is around 4,500 years"
The oldest living tree is over TWICE that age, moron.
Well, natural disasters tend to wreak havoc on plants and there are a lot of natural disasters. In any case they do have metabolisms just as any other living thing, and eventually they are unable to repair themselves any more. It's absolutely incredible that that tree has managed to be so old (how was it dated, btw? you of all of us should be the one crying about dating systems having their assumptions), or indeed the ones pointed out in this thread that are twice as old or more. It doesn't really matter how old the oldest tree is though, as it takes massive assumptions to claim that the age of the tree proves anything about the age of anything, other than the earth is obviously AT LEAST as old as the tree, and the tree has managed to withstand or fortuitously avoid disaster. That means you're at least as bad as the scientists you wish to tear down (at least they attempt to test or find evidence for their assumptions).
Actually, the world's oldest tree is about 9,500 years old.
That tree was put there by Satan to test your faith, of course.
Well, why didn't anybody ever tell me about this before? So Pegleg had a brother named Joker, way back when. Now I believe on the jebus, oh, yeah. Fer sherr. But I still wonder about a question posed by Stymie Beard in 1936; If Noah had a brother would his name be Yeah?
Uh...maybe I'll just hold off my leap of stoopidity 'til I get that one answered.

Long John Silvarrr.
Having actually READ the Babble, where the fuck are you getting this "peleg" and "joktan" crap. Names like that, I'd remember, if only from laughing at them.
Er, how did the camelshaggers of the old tribes know about Yellowstone? How could they have written about it? Did they fly there on a rainbow?
Were the days of Pegleg not also the days of his brother Joktan? They were brothers; they can't have been that far apart in years.
Was Joktan not a Vulcan?
We have our own prominent Vulcan here in the UK, almost a member of the shadow cabinet: his name is Joktan Peleg, but he is better known as John Redwood. You'd have to see him to believe him.

Geology, chemistry, physics and basically every other field of science says you're wrong, Svend.
@FSTDT commenters: Damn, I never knew that there were trees that are nearly 10 thousand years of age. I always thought that the oldest were in the one to two thousand year range, with most only living for a few hundred years. The lifespan of trees is amazing. If it weren't for us cutting all of them down, they'd probably be the most successful lifeform on the planet.
Confused?
