What did you think about Ben Stein's "Expelled?"?

Answer(by Deb S) : It was a great movie! If you are a netflix subscriber you can watch it instantly.

I thought the comparison to Hitler and the wall to keeping the truth away from people was excellent.

Answer (by whirlingmerc): I think it was really well done. I bought a copy. It was witty and entertaining and at the same time eye opening and informative. No surprise it is the 12th highest grossing documentary of all time.

It was sad to see some Christian schools dropping the contracts of Creationists and Intelligent Design advocates. I guess perhaps they should not call themselves Christian schools anymore. I don't know what's going on in the minds of Christian administrators in Christian schools to dump their basic beliefs and force out creatinist and intelligent design advocates. They are the ones who should be looking for new jobs.

Truthfully, Creationists and Intelligent Design are winning the arguments based on the evidence, but Evolutionists win the propaganda wars.

Okay, I know it wasn't the same person but IRONY METER BROKED OH GOD.

How is "Expelled" even considered a documentary? I've seen it, and I'm sorry but anything that Godwins itself in the opening credits automatically fails logic forever. (Unless it's a WWII documentary about Nazis but I can just go watch the History channel for those. :P)

Strange how you can never 'cite' your evidence, or submit it for peer review...

"No surprise it is the 12th highest grossing documentary of all time."

After "The 10 Commandments", "The Passion of Christ", "Men in Black"...

(The 12th highest grossing? Really? I mean, I know they bused congregations in from far and wide but, Jesus wept!)

"Truthfully, Creationists and Intelligent Design are winning the arguments based on the evidence, but Evolutionists win the propaganda wars."

First off, anyone who feels the need to tell you that they are about to tell you the truth is probably lying.

Second, if you think that film is a documentary, you wouldn't know propaganda if it bit you in the ass.

Third, speaking of Hitler, Leni Riefenstahl would have loved that film.

Fourth, it takes a lot of courage to reveal to the world the depth of your ignorance. I have to admire that.

A film based on fiction can not be called a documentary.

"expelled" is the biggest pile of manure to hit the screen in years.

Expelled is nothing more than some slackjaw with a camera pissing and moaning about how no one with common sense accepts intelligent design.

That's not a documentary, that's a youtube rant.

Only the 12th highest gross-out documentary of all time?

I'd have thought it would be in the top 5. It was colon cleansing, brain melting, nausea inducing, ass-itchingly...uh... perfect.

I notice how every piece of writing or film that supports an extremist's view is 'witty and informative' but anything else is '<insert enemy here> propaganda'. First on a hyperfeminist blog, now here...

Perhaps there is a secret subliminal message in Expelled that can only be seen by fundies, which has coherent facts and arguments...

"I thought the comparison to Hitler and the wall to keeping the truth away from people was excellent. "

I also think the comparison to Hitler is excellent:
Hitler's Table Talk, July 25, l942:

'From where do we get the right to believe, that from the
very beginning Man was not what he is today? Looking at
Nature tells us, that in the realm of plants and animals
changes and developments happen. But nowhere inside a
kind shows such a development as the breadth of the jump,
as Man must supposedly have made, if he has
developed from an ape-like state to what he is today.'

". . . I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews, I am doing the Lord's work."

- Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf

"We were convinced that the people need and require this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out."

- Adolf Hitler, 1933 speech in Berlin

"... I do not merely talk of Christianity, no, I also profess that I will never ally myself with the parties which destroy Christianity."
—Adolf Hitler, February 15, 1933, speech in Stuttgart

"National Socialism neither opposes the Church nor is it anti-religious, but on the contrary, it stands on the ground of a real Christianity."
—Adolf Hitler, August 26, 1934, speech in Koblenz

"This human world of ours would be inconceivable without the practical existence of a religious belief."
—Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf

"I may not be a light of the church, a pulpiteer, but deep down I am a pious man, and believe that whoever fights bravely in defense of the natural laws framed by God and never capitulates will never be deserted by the Lawgiver, but will, in the end, receive the blessings of Providence."
—Adolf Hitler, 1944

"My feeling as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was his fight against the Jewish poison. Today, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed his blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice. And as a man I have the duty to see to it that human society does not suffer the same catastrophic collapse as did the civilization of the ancient world some two thousand years ago — a civilization which was driven to its ruin through this same Jewish people."

-Hitler, April 12, 1922 from a speech at Munich.

Expelled is a double con.

The first con is the material itself -- most of it is simply not true.

The second, deeper con is the one Ben Stein, a secular neolib, is playing on creationists. He actually has them thinking that he believes their con, when he's just putting up a show of belief to do his part to keep the fundie masses showing up at the polls and voting Republican.

Fellow Freethinkers, (I apologize if most of you are already aware) but look for information on THE WEDGE STRATEGY & THE DISCOVERY INSTITUTE; both DISTORT Science and truth.

The propaganda in favor of Intelligent Design and the money behind it are astounding.
