Why are there so many atheism blogs? I saw recently how one guy collects them all in one place so you can “feed” on a life without God, literally hundreds of blog links, enough reading for several years.
My question is: Why? Why this persistent, diligent pursuit to prove or convince themselves and others that there is no God. Something I read some time ago seems to address this question.
Charles Colson tells about Irina Ratushinskaya, a young girl in the Soviet Union years ago. She was trained in Communist schools and indoctrinated in atheism. She said she could never figure out why her teachers all pitched such a furious battle against someone they said didn’t exist. “God doesn’t exist.” Irina began to question: “Can’t they tell they are giving themselves away? Adults tell you there are no gremlins or ghosts. They tell you once or twice, and that’s it. But with God, they tell you over and over again. So He must exist – and He must be very powerful for them to fear Him so greatly.”
You see, something inside is telling the atheistic bloggers - God really does exist. Rather than yield to his love, the atheist will convince himself/herself that God doesn’t exist and in so doing, proves that he in fact does exist, but that they are unwilling to acknowledge it. The sheer volume of atheistic blogs testify to the existence of one they refuse to acknowledge due to mulish pride.

At Yahoo! just now:
464,000,000 results for "Christian blog," including Christian blog servers, templates, etc.
40,300,000 for "atheist blog." No designated servers, no special templates.
Not to mention that there are many Christian bookstores (online and brick-and-mortar), print magazines, TV networks, etc., things that atheists don't have. Talk about a constant feedback loop!
IOW, that's one shiny mirror you got there, Mr. Nelson!
Adults tell you there are no gremlins or ghosts. They tell you once or twice, and that’s it. But with God, they tell you over and over again.
Nobody's trying to change how I am allowed to live my life based on the existence of gremlins or ghosts. But with God, they try over and over again.
So I resist over and over again.
> Why are there so many atheism blogs? ... enough reading for several years.
At your reading speed, yes.
There are more people who keep repeating that God does exist than people who say the opposite.
By your own arguments, that means that God does NOT exist. QED.
Tell little Irina that I said "hello".
Dream on buddy. What you got against atheists anyway? Maybe you know that you'll never convince us to believe in supernatural fairy tales. It might be frustrating for you, but it doesn't alter the folowing facts:-
There is no god and it definitely does not exist.
The bible contains errors and is inconsistent.
There is no heaven and there is no hell.
There are no angels, demons and devils or satan.
The bible is immoral and unethical.
The bible is no use as a guide to anything.
The bible is a XXX tome.
Religions are vast edifices of monstrous evil.
B y the way, I wouldn't mind betting that there are far more religious blogs. What the hell, I'll google and find out.
I googled "christian blog" it came up with 223,000. I googled "atheist blog" and it came up with 32,400.
Love ya, Pule.
Why are there so many Christian blogs? If you're so sure you are right, why so much effort to reassure yourselves?
As for Soviet schoolteachers, dogmatic doubt is as stupid as dogmatic faith; but the teachers had to repeat themselves because they weren't teaching in a vacuum - there aren't huge crusading organizations sending out missionaries to convince kids that gremlins and ghosts exist, nor terrifying those kids with supposed consequences of unbelief.
@GreenEyedLilo
Nice work. It demonstrates that the ratio of atheist blogs to Christian blogs is ~the same as ratio of atheists to Christians (~1:9*, at least in nations with substantial numbers of both atheists and christians).
(*Eyeball estimate. Worldwide ratio according to the 2006 World Almanac is actually ~1.5:13 or 11.5% atheist)
Atheism blogs aren't about reinforcing the idea that no God exists. They (we) write because it's you people we're afraid of, and you definitely exist.
I don't see how you can equate blogs that are voluntarily accessed on the Internet with schoolteachers forcing atheism in classrooms.
literally hundreds of blog links, enough reading for several years.
where on the fucking internet. This statement could be applied to everything from Athiesm to kangaroo boxing.
You see, something inside is telling the atheistic bloggers - God really does exist.
Wow. Way to totally, completely, and in every sense of the phrase, miss the point. Fractal wrongness award, here ya go.
'Irina began to question: “Can’t they tell they are giving themselves away? Adults tell you there are no gremlins or ghosts. They tell you once or twice, and that’s it. But with God, they tell you over and over again..."'
The reason why adults tell kids only once or twice that there are no gremlins or ghosts is that generally the kid doesn't persist. In cases wherein the kid rambles about gremlins and ghosts under his bed for his entire life, you can bet that adults would be telling them otherwise more often.
'"...So He must exist and He must be very powerful for them to fear Him so greatly.”'
This is unbelievably vacuous logic.
Irina is dumb, apparently.
Statistically speaking, there are millions of people who enjoy wondering aloud as to whether 'god' exists.
If something like 'god' truly existed beyond any doubt, there would be no need for all the questions.
Your logic needs a tuneup and a good bowl of spaghetti, Joey.
What is it with you guys and atheists? You're always ranting incoherently against us for no apparent reason. In this case, it apparently disturbs you that we have blogs dedicated to atheism-related issues. Do you, or don't you, believe in freedom of expression?
And no, nothing "inside" has ever made me think that your god exists. So stop trying to tell me what I think, jackass.
I love the "something inside," "deep within them," "if they'll only admit it" approach. I suspect it's the Christianists who have the deep doubts, and resort to this twaddle to reassure themselves.
"the atheist will convince himself/herself that God doesn’t exist and in so doing, proves that he in fact does exist,"
Self-destructing argument ahoy!
The Christian will convince himself/herself that Odin doesn't exist and in so doing, proves that Odin in fact does exist.
@Old Viking
"I suspect it's the Christianists who have the deep doubts, and resort to this twaddle to reassure themselves."
I've always wondered that, especially since some Christians try to find their God in everything and anything . As if the slightest spot that doesn't have their Christian God in it will invalidate God's entire existence.
That must be it. It's not the fact that people say shit like atheist have no morals, atheist can't be good, atheist are evil monsters and so on. Do you seriously expect us to stay quiet? Well fuck you. Your post screams of a person who got owned in a argument and now is countering with an emotional attack. You can't claim that you now what every atheist thinks. You're full of crap on that. Also, if you knew the definiton of athesim you would know that we don't believe in any gods. Think of the reasons why you don't believe in other religions dieties and then you'll see why we don't believe in yours.
Why are there so many Christian preachers? Therefore, Christianity is wrong.
I can play your games too.
The big difference is,,,, there is no organised body of people (church, temple, synagogue, mosque) constantly telling our children that there ARE gremlins and ghosts, so there's no need to reinforce the denial.
Now this what I call logic, re the Babel fish.
"Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mindboggingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as the final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.
"The argument goes something like this: `I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, `for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'
`But,' says Man, `The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.'
`Oh dear,' says God, `I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly vanished in a puff of logic.
"Adults tell you there are no gremlins or ghosts. They tell you once or twice, and that’s it. But with God, they tell you over and over again."
If the world was filled with whiny brats who stamped their feet and yelled, "NO! Gremlins DO exist!!", the agremlinists would have to tell you over and over again too.
EDIT: Dammit, atrasicarius beat me to it!

Fixed.
"Why? Why this persistent, diligent pursuit to prove or convince themselves and others that there is no God."
because assholes like Joey just won't shut up.
You see, something inside is telling the Christian bloggers - God really does not exist. Rather than yield to logic and reason, the Christian will convince himself/herself that God does in fact exist and in so doing, proves that he does not exist, but that they are unwilling to acknowledge it. The sheer volume of Christian blogs testify to the absence of one, which they refuse to acknowledge due to mulish pride.
Though I bet I'm the third person or so to do this. ;P
Actually no, they were afraid of Stalin. Not God.
Funny how you criticize US organizing when you people have RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGNS targeted at MAJOR CITIES as if you were the Army of something.
“Why this persistent, diligent pursuit to prove or convince themselves and others that there is no God.”
Um, I’m an atheist. If i blogged, it’d be an atheist blog. But its purpose would NOT be to convince myself or others that there is no God
It MIGHT be that you see ‘atheist’ and assumed ‘missionary’ content?
“You see, something inside is telling the atheistic bloggers - God really does exist.”
Uh, no. There are, however, plenty of PEOPLE that keep telling us this sort of shit, and they may be responding to that.
"The sheer volume of atheistic blogs testify to the existence of one they refuse to acknowledge due to mulish pride.”
No it doesn’t. You’re projecting your bias.
Confused?
