No, actually, it's the creationists who try to slow down and speed up light.

It's easy to slow down light. Shine it through air, glass, water, anything that allows it to pass. The 'C' constant for the speed of light, refers to "the speed of light in a hard vacuum". As for speeding up light,,,, who the hell is trying to do that ?

Someone please kill Gary.
Shit that stupid shouldn't be wasting resources.

"If science is not about proving theories or hypotheses, then why is so much money spent on research to try to prove these previously mentioned theories??"
But then, should we expect nothing less from 'hoemskuled' fundies? There's two good things to come out of Kitzmiller vs. Dover:
1- It keeps fundie Creationism out of biology classes in perpetuity, thus students are taught the facts, therefore creating (pun may or may not be intended) future generations of educated, intellectual, questioning* generations; asking questions: the basis of Science.
2- It keeps existing fundies out of accredited schools, via their aversion to teh ebil facts, thus McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell et al get a constant supply of shit-for-brains counter staff whose only contact with said educated, intellectual generations is at the drive-through, as they pick up their orders whilst driving back to their offices/research labs/school/college/university teaching jobs in their expensive cars, paid for via their high-flying salaries.
Someone has to keep these shit-for-brains fundies in work; monkeys paid peanuts, and all that jazz. At least said educated, intellectual Atheists are doing the charitable thing, and bringing their custom to them.
*- Saying 'I don't know' is the beginning of wisdom.

> If science is not about proving theories or hypotheses
Let me stop you right there.

Science is about deriving an accurate and factual understanding of the universe and the natural mechanisms and phenomena occuring within it. Collecting data in the form of observations, positing and testing hypotheses to account for specific subsets of observations, deriving comprehensive and predictive theories to account for the entire bodies of observations within their scope, and ultimately continuing to test and as needed revise those theories as new observatoins arise are simply the means to that end.

People this stupid should be exterminated.

A theory is a proven hypothesis, stupid.
Creationists: bending reality to fit their preconceived notions and fairy tales.
Scientists: bending research to fit reality.
Millions of dollars are also spent every year on cancer research, on research in resistance to antibiotics, on more effective ways to feed and water the Earth's very large human population, etc.
But, you are of course free to abstain from all evil scientific findings and keep to growing your own rutabagas (or "swedes", if you speak English English), to bloodletting, the four humors and phrenology.
