just got off the phone with an atheist whom I speak with every once in awhile about Christianity. Today, he was so loudly protesting Israel that I couldn't get a word in edgewise. He said that Israel should be nuked & that it's no wonder why the Arab people hate our country. He also said that if the USA is attacked again like on 9/11, it would be our fault because of our blind support for Israel.
I know the hatred for Israel is coming from his hatred towards Christianity & God.......but it still makes me physically sick!!

Your atheist friend actually has a point. While business and people are going to the wall in the US, the country is passing billions to Israel that she uses to protect herself.
Sadly her idea of protecting herself is closer to Adolf's (Lebensraum, Blitzkrieg)than that of any reasonable person. (I exclude from 'reason' fundies, religiomaniacs and churches of all denominations).
It is clear that a more even-handed foreign policy in respect of the Arab world/Israel would mean more influence for the US among Arabs. As it is, the Arabs call you the Great Shaitan. Shaitan, fundie-wunda-ism, is Satan! The see Americans behind every attack that Israel makes, behind every Arab man, woman and child that Israel kills. You are the real killers and Israel is your tool... I have heard that from Arabs own mouths. Yet you see yourselves as untainted and victims of the Arabs? There is confusion here on both sides, and Israel is the fulcrum.
Get to setting it right this time.
It is also conceivable that such an evenhandedness might well have avoided altogether the horror of 9/11!

While there are in fact atheists who are morons (being human, we have our share, just like you do), and it's possible that this conversation actually took place in a way somewhat similar to how you described it, given the source (ie, Rapture Ready), I find myself having a hard time believing it.

I'm of the mind that what your friend really hates is a 100:1 retributive body count when ever an Israeli is killed.
I think he's hates seeing kids having their faces blown off by cluster bombs.
I think he hates hearing about little girls and old women being strip-searched and deprived of tampons and sanitary napkins by Israeli checkpoint guards.
Most of all, I think he hates seeing entire generations of palestinians be born, live, and die in refugee camps without ever knowing their homeland.
That's what I think. I know it pisses me off.

To those that are curious, the reason that fundies support Israel is that for Jesus to come back, the temple must be rebuilt and the Jews must start the animal sacrifices again. They've found the red heifers, a fundie in Texas is breeding them. Now all they have to do is blow up the Dome of the Rock so that the building can begin.
Once the Jews have performed their part, they can go to hell with all the Muslims that were sent before.
