Quote# 57124

i made this post awhile ago on another board, when i saw this thread i just had to share it:

People are burnt out on hearing "Jesus is coming soon", because they've heard it for decades, despite the contrary. That being said, it only further perpetuates the truth by making men's hearts cold and and hard against God. That being said they refuse to acknowledge a few historic truths:

The Dome of the Rock is in serious disrepair on the temple mount, and has been in iminent danger of collapse for the past few years. Jordanian engineers have been working on it since '05.

Two red heifers have been born in Israel within the past 10 years. (Maybe three?) Both have had blemishes and thus been disqualified, but prior to their appearance, none have been born in Israel for over 2000 years.

The Holy Half-shekel has been around since 1993/4, mentioned in the book of numbers.

Two cornerstones for the third temple have already been made, according to biblical standards, and have been brought to the temple mount every year for quite awhile now, led by the group Temple Mount Faithful.

The Sanhedrin, the group that convicted Christ, was re instituted '06.

Isaiah 17 is more real now than ever, and syria knows this apparently, seeing as how they have moved all their important documents out of their own capitol.

The unimportance of the US on the worldstage is steadily climbing, and will probably end fairly soon, as the oil markets move from the dollar, to the Euro, or some other currency. (China, Russia, Venezula, and Iran are already doing this actively) Thus, making Israel's dependance on the anti-christ much more probable and necessary.

Oh, then of course there's that whole 2012 thing, which some believe may be the 6th seal in the book of revelation.

And then of course you have the 12 Imam around the corner, with iran wanting war to break out in the Middle-East so he can show up. The Al-Mahdi seems to fit the persona of the anti-christ quite nicely.

So, with all this in mind, how can this NOT be the last of the last days?

"So, with all this in mind, how can this NOT be the last of the last days?"

Because none of it is real; it's all in your head.

Get your facts straight. We've been hearing it for about twenty centuries.

"Two red heifers have been born in Israel within the past 10 years."

Wasn't that an episode of the X-Files? Spooky.

I have just received my third lifetime ban from RR and it's all your fault. I was even subtle this last time. They must have god moderating for them.

This is great. Not only do you have nonsense from the Babble, but you've included mythology from the Mayans (2012) and Islam (the Mahdi).

This fundie transcends all religions.

So, with all this in mind, how can this NOT be the last of the last days?

Because all of it is based on fantasies and not reality!

So to recap - The Jesus is coming soon thing has been going around for centuries and people are tired of hearing it but THIS time it's really true. Gotcha.

The Second Coming

TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

- William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)
Honestly, these end of the world fundies are really going downhill. At least 65 years ago they could be poetic.

Linking things that have nothing in common is quite normal among conspiracy theorists and those who engage in wishful thinking.

How convenient that you omit what Jesus said: that he would return during the lifetime of some of those to whom he was speaking.

How inconvenient that from nothing Islam, in the space of a few short years should have become a world religion that swept across the face of the then known world. What was Jesus thinking of allowing this to happen. What was he thinking of when his own people were beaten into slavery and almost annihilated by the Romans?

And as for the red heifer thing, I suspect that a red herring is what you are really referring to. There are no records that go back 2000 years in Israel/Palestine. The history of the place is one of conquest and reconquest. Too much destruction for something as delicate as papyrus or vellum to survive, unless secreted away like the Dead Sea Scrolls. So a coherent and continuous record of red heifers, or the lack of them is not feasible. Produce you evidence, if you disagree.

Modern Judaism is not sacrifice oriented. It is based on the Synagogue/Schul. It is the nutters - strange how they seem to penetrate everywhere - that are trying to revive sacrifice. And if they try to take over the Temple Mount, they will provoke, far more effectively, a war in the region that Ahmedinejad of Iran!

Now get some realism into your skull and stop behaving like and idiot.

You used Islam and Mayan ideas! Wouldn't those be of the Debil?!
Either way, I do not believe you. I don't see the so called "signs" and besides, humans have been waiting for the "last days" for centuries. Nothing. Happened.

Yeats wasn't a fundie. In fact, he really wanst much of a Christian. His religion was Magick - he was a member of the Golden Dawn, an occult organisation that was loosely based on Qabalah.

The poem, however, is very potent. I set it to music for choir, only to discover it is still in copyright, until next year - 2010.

Easy -- the Bible is a work of FICTION. (And your precious "Rapture" isn't even *in* it!)

All of those prophesies can be used to fit into any period of world history, depending on interpretation. People have said everything you've just said countless times throughout history, but with other events substituted in place of the ones you mention. You're completely wrong, just like they were.

Instead of reading the bible, you might wanna check out the story of the boy who cried wolf...

"... how can this NOT be the last of the last days?"

Maybe it's the first of the last days. Or the last of the first days. Whatever. I'm going to go have a beer.

So, with all this in mind, how can this NOT be the last of the last days?

Quite simple really, the Sun has not been consumed by wolves, nor has her brother the Moon. The seas have not risen up to drown the land, nor has Surtr set out from Muspelheim to burn Midgard. Loki has not broken free of his bonds and ferried the Giants and dead in the boat Naglfar. We also have not experienced 7 years of winter, nor has Heimdal sounded the Gjallrhorn.

That is how we can tell it is not the "last of the last days"!

Yup, and in another hundred years, another set of equally inane circumstances will be proof that we are in the last of the last of the LAST days.

'tard!
