The explanation for the pyramids is quite simple. There was this vast civilization in ancient Egypt (around 3150 BC till 30BC) that was ruled by these "emperor" type guys, called Pharaohs.
At one point they decided that the most awesome memorial they can possibly think of is a huge three dimensional triangle made out of stone that would also serve as their tomb.
So they whipped their slaves until they had produces some 130 or so pyramids.
And there we have it! Simple explanation for the pyramids.

There's pyramid shaped rock or dune outcrops on some Mars photos. We'd notice more of the same on Earth if we weren't covered with so much vegetation, probably a face here and there too

Actually slaves never built the pyramids. It was actually out of work farmers and other workers that the pharaoh commissioned them to built the tombs.
