Maybe I'm just a nasty public-schooled heathen for my entire primary and secondary education, but I think I knew most of the dirty words by the time I was 10. It's sad that a grown woman is so sheltered that she doesn't know they even exist

How dare your let your child be exposed to things he'll have to face eventually in life?! What kind of mother are you?!

Better send 'em to public school lest they become dopes like the homeschool Christians from Jesus Camp....

You could do what my parents did and, you know, actually talk to the children about why swearing is bad. But I guess children don't deserve honesty.

Heaven forbid they should be exposed to the real world. You might actually have to be a parent to them, and that would never do.

Guess what, honey. Unless they live in your basement for the rest of their natural lives, they'll be exposed to the big, bad world eventually. One of the reason why Public School is good...they get familiarized by it a little more slowly, as opposed to it all rushing at them at once.

She'd rather her kids remain sheltered and unable to cope with the real world?

> The most influence of all in school, is the other children.
Yup. Prepare your kids for that, if you can. And you can probably only do so in generalities. Teach them good manners, teach them the difference between right and wrong (even fundy right and wrong, if you have to), but above all else just try to teach them basic respect for all people.
You know they'll go off the rails once or twice as they grow up, but don't get your tits in a mangle over it. Didn't you make the same mistakes when you were young?

Yes, shelter your children forever, make them live with you until the day you die, never let them know there are other ways of thinking out there because god forbid you may have to think your faith is such a powerful, infallible truth that they'd CHOOSE to believe it over any other philosophy.

I kind of understand why her husband left her. Those poor kids. They'll probably leave her the second they get a chance, too.

Um, while I agree that the socializing of children in an environment like a public school is going to teach them some things they're better off without, keeping them sheltered is fifty times worse. So what if they learn a few swear words. You can't shelter a kid and then expect them to survive in the outside world.
Sounds like your kids are fucked. Way to go.

This is what disgusts me about fundies; teaching (indoctrinating) their kids into a sheltered fantasy world instead of preparing them for real life.

I prayed and wept, and God made a way for me, a single mom, to take my children out of public school.
Yes, god gave you that ability after you specifically prayed for it; it couldn't possibly have been a preexisting legal process that you just didn't think about before.

I knew those words existed. I went to public school, it wasn't immoral. I actually had a good time and learned how to deal with things. Also made my college years a bit easier since it meant I knew more about who I'd be dealing with.
