The difference is that people were around to witness the linguistit transitions and record them. There is no record of evolutionism, that is why it is referred to as "prehistory," because no one was around to see it. However, if no one is around to see something then it cannot be verified. That is why evolutionism is pure speculation based on suppositions.

You forget, though: fundie "logic" already contains lots of handy loopholes to shunt aside any possible cognitive dissonance that might actually break kayfabe for them.

This reminds me of one of the worst incidents in my tenure at a private academy which was supposed to be an "interdenominational" Protestant school where people of all faiths were welcome, but ended up being dominated by Fundies when they took over the school board.
While teaching about how the English language has changed over time from Beowulf to our Modern English, I used the words "evolution" and "evolved".
I ended up having to defend myself before the newly elected Fundie school board to justify my use of those evil words in the classroom.
