[Pot Calling the Kettle Black Award?]
Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.
"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy."

Yeah, I can tell he's completely unbiased.
So in other words, you're insane if you're not as apathetic as this guy. Wow.
If a government isn't meeting my needs, then it's really not doing it's job, is it? I have a need to be kept safe and free, don't I?
Oh, how dare we want basic freedoms and rights for everybody regardless of social status, gender, religion, race, or sexual orientation.
From the article:
"When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."
I think I just heard my irony meter explode...and it's 5 miles away in a shop being fixed from last time.
Poor, poor Joe :(
Silly fool just because some righting winged fundie extremist .Writes a scathing article claiming progressives and liberal are suffering from a mental illness ,doesn't make it true.
I could find over a 100 articles on conservatism and how it is just another name for a aristocracies .Or how the conservative moment is in opposition to democracy and how stymies a democracy by not allowing for any change or growth with that democracy .So the next time you want to use a a expert make sure it a real expert not a nut job libertarian like like Lyle H. Rossiter

A libertarian sent me the e-mail below and the commentary, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness," by Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr, MD. I've included it below because it's such a distorted view of what it is to be liberal, that I don't want it to disappear. It continues decades of efforts by libertarians and economic conservatives to pervert the meaning of the word, liberal.
takes one to know one....
OOoooooooooooh, ouch, did that burn ?
This guy is little more than a professional expert witness, and hasn't published anything peer reviewed since 1991, according to his own website: http://www.forensicpsychiatrist.com/
He's just a douche with a diploma.
Rossiter hides his fascism behind his qualifications, but his entire book is a frothing, raving, extremist diatribe which makes Karl Rove look like Lenin.
Believe anything you want you fuckwits...yeah we are all mentally ill, the black panthers stole the election, evolution=atheism, communism, socialism, facism, religion, blah,blah,blah,etc...
We won and you lost, and you are going to lose the next election too.

Knotilus:
"As opposed to the lunacy of conservatism, where things stay the same because that's the way they've always been, even when the way things have always been is disgustingly cruel and wrong. "
Yes, or when "always" is only 50 years, like the mentioning of god in the pledge of allegiance and on money.
Or even when things were never like what they imagine because of media portrayals e.g the 1950's was an innocent time, just like in Leave it to Beaver . Apparently before the 1960's no-one ever had extra-marital affairs, took drugs, shot/blew-up a school, or were (shock! horror!) homosexual. No, they're completely modern developments, caused by Liberalism ...
So "Dr." Lyle Rossiter thinks that all of those famous liberal thinkers like John Stuart Mill, John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Immanuel Kant and David Hume were just stark raving mad. What a pretentious, small minded little twat.
"[Liberals] demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
Oh, I see the problem! He's got "liberals" confused with "financial firms" and "automakers."
Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
# rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.
That's right, folks, LIBERALS HATE INDIVIDUAL SOVEREIGNTY. You heard it here first.
That must be why they're against things like abortion, gay marriage and the legalisation of drugs.
This man is insane. The article doesn't have an author listed other than WND, but likely he wrote it himself, as he has here...

This is a townhall.com article he AUTHORED where he writes about himself and his book in the third person, apparently in a blatant attempt to add credence to his words. I'd like to point out this bit:
He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago and served for two years as a psychiatrist in the United States Army. He is currently in private practice in the Chicago area.
First of all, don't go to the University of Chicago for psychiatry, unless you want to risk ending up like this loser. Second, was he discharged from the army for being batshit insane? And third, if you live in Chicago, never, never go get treatment from this man.
So why is it not in the DSM IV?
"modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded,"
I see many conservatives, particularly fundie Christians do it far more than liberals.
@freako104:
Re. DSM-IV, my thoughts exactly.
A further point would be that, even if it were true, it is irrelevant whether liberals are undermining "the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded" as to whether something is a mental disorder. If those "important principles" are wrong, or are being used to justify something heinous, or better principles exist, etc. then wanting or trying to undermine them would not be an aberrant or inconsistent behaviour. The only reason to make such an assertion is that undermining the US's founding principles is an emotionally and politically loaded charge, hence a good basis for an ad hominem attack, which is sadly all this book is.

I wish these people would FUCKING LEARN THE DEFINITION OF THE WORD "LIBERAL".
And I'm not even a liberal, and you've made me defend them here, see?
"Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
Because things were so much better when if you couldn't find a job you starved to death. Right. I'm going to kick your ass back to nineteenth century Manchester and see how much you like it dickface. (and no, you DON'T get to be bourgeois.)
Yeah, you always see liberals making policy decisions based on what they think will stop the invisible sky man killing everyone. Truly that is a sign of madness.
Oh wait, it's the conservatives who do that.
Countries, who have, erm, a bit broader spectrum than the US of A, have Communism on the other side of the spectrum from Liberalism, and Conservatism just a stone's throw to the right of Liberalism. In Sweden, Liberals and Conservatives are fighting about who's furthest to the right.
Communists seldom rebel against the "normal responsibilities of adulthood", as most of them accept that responsibility at the age of sixteen or so. I know of people who, fifty years ago, started working at the age of eleven, and haven't stopped since. Only people who are rich and spoiled can stay "teenagers" until the age of 25, 30, 35, 40...
Confused?
