Yes, one is separated from the state by constitutional precedence, the other is relied on by the state as a harbinger of prosperity?

The authors of our constitution did a great job but they did not foresee anti-progessive cunts like yourself metmom.
Ironically the seperation of church and state may be the cause of many of our problems. The lack of a national religion, such as in England, has led religion to become a capitalistic enterprise, each church having to outdo the other in order to compete for tithe dollars. In my opinion, that has led to the extremism and fundamentalism we see in the US today.

In other words, establishing the Patent Office. Science and technology are promoted with an official nod, religion is simply freedom of concious, the right to peaceably assemble, the right to be LEFT ALONE.

Yes, religion is "enumerated" and guess what? It's mentioned to keep people like you from forcing people like me to follow your religion, and to keep people like me from forcing people like you to "follow" our non-belief (not that people like me would try to do that; I just want to be left alone about what I believe or don't and I assume others feel the same way unless they ask me).
Science does not need to be mentioned in the constitution because science is not a religion or belief system. Unethical people have sometimes used it to infringe on others' rights, but simply learning about a process of finding out the truth about the natural, physical world or using that process to do the same doesn't infringe on anyone's rights.
Might I suggest you take a civics class?

Yeah, so?! The US Constitution is not trying to establish a heirarchy between the two. So religion is mentioned first, big F'ing deal. You do realize, metmom, that the reference to religion is to limit its influence/power while the reference to science is to protect intellectual property and scientific discoveries?
And Obama is putting science back in its rightful position.

Because if it wasn't for science, we'd all still be living in that religious utopia known as the dark ages. They don't seem to think that if we hadn't moved forward, protestants wouldn't exist.
