An overweight and over-the-hill Bruce Springsteen is performing songs from the 1980s at the Super Bowl halftime. Wonder why? He supports the liberal agenda hook, line and sinker. But he hasn't yet performed his "Born in the U.S.A." ... perhaps Obama types wouldn't like that one???

$100 says you don't have a clue what that song is about.

Hint: it's not a patriotic song.

You wouldn't like it either, if you listened to it properly.

Hawaii is in the US, Schalfly. And what does Obama have to do with the SuperBowl, anyway?

"Born in the U.S.A."

The one that criticizes the US' actions in the Vietnam War??

Yeah, you've never listened to more than that one line.

I'll bet you think "American Woman" is about the love of American women.

@anonymous

I think it criticizes how the US government did jack shit for veterans of Vietnam as wella s the war itself.

I'd say your "type" shouldn't suggest Born In The USA - bit too close for comfort don't you think?

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
Went down to see my V.A. man
He said "Son, don't you understand"

Most intelligent people are liberal. Aren't you? Or has liberal got a special meaning in America.

It's a PROTEST SONG!! Springsteen gets pissed when he sees fans waving flags at his shows when he sings it like they think it's the National Anthem. He's told many inteviewers that's not what it's all about. You're probably one of those flag-wavers who hasn't listened to the lyrics.

Obama types would be singing along with it word-for-word. The smarter Schlafly types, though, probably wouldn't want to hear it. (Andy is not one of the smarter Schlafly types.)

A songs title does not always sum up what it is about.

I think he might prefer this version of the song:

I'm sure when Andy listens to that song, all he hears is "blah blah" and the chorus.

Born down in a dead man's town
First kick I took was when I hit the ground
End up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up

Yeah, real "rah rah greatest thing ever!" Song there Andy

I love that song. Not just because it rocks (which it does), but because it has been completely misunderstood for over a quarter of a century by boneheads who take it for some kind of unofficial American anthem.

It is of course a condemnation of America's involvement in the Vietnam war, and more specifically of the shameful way in which so many Vietnam vets were treated on their return. Not exactly America's finest hour, I'd say.

(I now feel the urge to dig out the brilliant 5 disc live set which the Boss released in around 1985 and play the live version of "Born In The USA" loud enough to blow the neighbours' windows to shreds.)
