Quote# 58172

[According to Sir David Attenborough, the Bible is to blame for the Earth's enviromental woes.]

Pollution must be the contributing factor to his loss of brain cells. Either that or he has spent far too much time looking at the world through a straw.
---
Yeah .....earth worship....... remember those people crying over a tree stump and talking to the forest? LOL!
---
Sir Attenborough is speaking from a very secular point of view and out of complete ignorance from God's final word.

Just look at what is happening in nations where the bible is not being preached:

Over-population, corruption, war, rebellion, disease, self-centeredness, sin is being accepted as being "good", moral decay everywhere. And this is the Bibles' fault? Save the earth. Hug a tree and kill a baby....

I see a rampant spirit of rebellion and pride everywhere.
---
I challenge this PC-spouting "scientist" to take a good long, unbiased look at the communist satellite countries, that have broken off from USSR; countries, by the way, that based their entire enviromental philosphies and culture on atheism.

Even the hyper-environmental rag, National Geographic, noted the blackened wasteland of Romania after decades of athiest/socialist rule. Ditto for the rest of the former communist eastern Europe not to mention Russia and China--the two worst offenders environmentally. They have totally TRASHED their land, water, air, etc.

"Over-population, corruption, war, rebellion, disease, self-centeredness"

Many of which are frequently caused by religious stupidity.

I agree with Sir David to a point. However, I don`t think one can put the whole blame on the Bible, especially when some of the greatest polluters (i.e. The former Soviet Union, Communist China, and now Post Soviet Russia) cause far greater damage than anyone else.

However, it is true that Evangelical Christians, have taken that passage and used it as an excuse to rape and pillage the planet.

Remember those people crying over Jesus and talking to God?

The Soviet and former Soviet states do indeed have an awful pollution record - but really, the devoutly Christian west behaved much the same during the first century of their own rapid industrialisation; the life expectancy in some British factory towns in the 19th century, due to the pollution and general environmental indifference, was as little as about twenty years for the working class. Granted, the Soviets had less of an excuse, historical data on the earlier trends being quite available to them, but it's still worth pointing this out.

Yeah, there's so much over-population, corruption, war, rebellion, and disease in Sweden.

And of course the fundies will continue to drive their big assed gas guzzling lifted four wheel drive Excursions everywhere, throw a double mother buttload of shitty diapers in the landfills, buy McMansions to show off their status and generally give less than a shit about how much harder it is to eek out a living in other parts of the world.

I don't actually think Sir Dave actually blamed all the environmental problems on the Bible. And so Communism is bad ... that doesn't mean you lot are therefore good.

Yep, bonkers.

I would have thought that the poor environmental record of communist countries had much more to do with them being dictatorships than being theoretically "atheist". They had no free media to report on ecological damage and pressure the government and/or companies to take action. People probably couldn't complain (at least not to the media) and certainly couldn't take the offending companies to court. And the party was probably more concerned with trying to compete with the military of the U.S. and/or NATO.

I don't know about you, but that sounds like a recipe for environmental destruction to me, no matter the religion of the people.

More like the RR idiots have lost brain cells, am i right.

I challenge you to give me a list of all of these athiest countries.

Just as a point of accuracy some of the soviet satellites - Romania and Poland for example - are now the most religious societies in Europe. In terms of over-population is it not christian sects - the Roman Catholics who forbid all forms of contraception except the rhythm method and fundies - who want to breed for Jesus? Sir David Attenborough is rude about any polluting beit soviet or capitalist.

But then reading these pages when did a fundy ever think let alone understand?

Hammer and nail anyone? Describes my ex-sister to a t. My sister and I haven't spoken to the filthy fundie cunt in over a decade, after she sued us over the family will - the "good" "christian" way.

@Potentate:

China emits a lot of pollution because it has a lot of people. In terms of per capita emissions they are the 91st largest emitter of GHGs, for example.

Top countries by per capita CO2 emissions:

1 Qatar
2 Kuwait
3 United Arab Emirates
4 Luxembourg
5 Trinidad and Tobago
6 Brunei
7 Bahrain
8 Netherlands Antilles
9 Aruba
10 United States
11 Canada
18 Saudi Arabia
30 Russia
34 Japan
37 United Kingdom
38 Germany
49 Poland
63 France
67 Hungary
70 Bulgaria
83 Romania
91 China

On the whole, the west is slightly worse than the east and the far east (except China), but considerably better than the middle-east. The obvious trend seems to be economic rather than religious.

Anyone who isn't pro-environment doesn't deserve to live in the environment. Strap them all to a rocket and fire it into the sun. They can finally get to meet their precious god, although they'll have to miss the rapture. Boohoohoo.

Um. Actually, Sir David Attenborough said that the belief that Man is entitled to use/abuse the Earth as typified by the Buy-bull, other Scripture, and any philosophy that rejects evidence, is why we are doing such a good job of destroying the planet. Greed and that sense of entitlement seem destined to kill us all unless those who understand the magnitude of the problem can sway the greedy and the ignorant.

BTW. "PC" would include deference to others religious beliefs so, if I were trying to be politically correct, I wouldn't say that the Raptards are dangerous fanatics who should be prevented from breeding or raising children at any cost.

Once again the RR crowd displays their utterly clueless perception of what sane people are talking about. They hear Lush Rimjob say, "political correctness is bad", and run with it while never even understanding (or even trying to understand) what "PC" means.

@Brain_In_A_Jar
Particularly ironic as it was Karl Marx ,along with Engels ,who wrote The Condition of the Working Class in England, which showed the appalling conditions they had to endure during the British industrial revolution.
By the way I see that the RR fools have got the wrong end of the stick (yet again) do these people ever think before they type ?
Silly question I know.
In case there are any RR lurkers here ,just because Sir David Attenborough does not appear to be a Christian let alone one of your odd & pathetic doomsday cult ,it does not mean that he is wrong on this matter.

Funny I see that from the religious far more than the non religious.

"I see a rampant spirit of rebellion and pride everywhere. "

Yes many Christians say they are rebelling and many are vain.

Being Romanian myself, I can tell all of you that the environmental record is indeed poor, though it is due to the dictatorial ways of the comunism regime, and the obessesion with industrialisation, rather than atheism. Even during the communist regime the country was deeply religious and it has seen a revival of the church in the last 20 years. So no, it was never an atheist country. On the other hand the placing in David B.'s list is due to the peculiar geograpy of the country, the fact that 25% or so of the country is still covered in forests, and the environmental agencies in Romania have always taken care to preserve that. So yes poluted, not as much as others since the country only had about 70 years of industrial development, compared to say the U.K., yes communist, but never really atheist, not even in the deepest comunist times. The church was not accnoleged, and it was removed from the rulling governmental bodies, but there was little real repression, whatever some people may choose to remember. Comunist regimes care more about personal property and the removal and nationalisation thereof than the personal ideologies.

I'm no fan of religion, but the bible is just a book. Environmental woes are the product of a massive human population coupled with tendency that humans have to set shit on fire wherever they go (such as fossil fuels), and change their environment to suit their living needs.

That being said, I suspect that my man Dave was misquoted. This suspicion has been verified above by pete.
