Quote# 58210

If I were to go to some hospital and found some person on life support and unplugged it, because they were inconvenienceing me, would that be murder? What if they woke up but still had an air tube down there throat and I took a pair of scissors and shoved it into the back of the head and sucked their brains out, would that be murder?

How the hell are they inconveniencing you or risking your life?

It troubles me that you have these thoughts. Have you considered counseling?

And, yes, it would be murder.

If you are equating ending the life of an adult human with aborting a cluster of cells barely out of the ovary, you are an idiot. Then again, that's the way it is with you fundies isn't it? Protect the pre-born at all costs but that protection ends when they pop out of the chute.
Check your Bible. Even it doesn't call ending a pregnancy murder. What you suggest, on the other hand...

Potentate Argyros of the Gaystapo

Yes, and I for one would be very happy to flip the switch on the electric chair after your ass was busted... Oh, I see what you did there! You're saying, Pres. Obama wants to do this!

Well isn't that an electric chair full of fail.

Trying to attack this aggressive word salad with a side of anger sauce.

They won't wake up and aren't 'aware' in any fashion. Brain death is death... It isn't inconvenience at all, it's human dignity and such. When a person is gone they are gone, nothing we can do will bring them back.

Aren't these the same people who complain about doctor's "playing God"? Isn't keeping someone alive by artificial means doing just that?

You know the answer is yes. You intentionally took the life of someone else, and it was not in self defense. Now, I know you're trying to equate this with abortion. The difference is the person you just murdered is or was at some point self-aware, had/has a mind. At the point where a fetus has these things (or we might be generous and pick some possibly arbitrary point in fetal development, since self-awareness occurs some time after birth) we might consider abortion to be taking a life. The fetus doesn't have these things at conception, however.

a mind far far away

WTF. That's all that can really be said.

D Laurier

It would be murder, and utterly depravity.

2/9/2009 3:22:07 AM

The Watcher

Yes, that would be killing a person. Which abortion isn't.

"What if they woke up but still had an air tube down there throat and I took a pair of scissors and shoved it into the back of the head and sucked their brains out, would that be murder?"

Sounds an awful lot like a religious experience.

"What if they woke up but still had an air tube down there throat and I took a pair of scissors and shoved it into the back of the head and sucked their brains out, would that be murder?"

Um, most definitely. That is quite a disturbing fantasy you've posted to the internet.

"If I were to go to some hospital and found some person on life support and unplugged it, because they were inconvenienceing me, would that be murder?"

As stupidroro said, it is not about inconvenience it is about human dignity. I'm assuming this is an argument against removing the brain dead or persistent vegetative state bodies from life support. For one, brain death is legal death and removing someone who is brain dead from life support is done whenever someone in a hospital is brain dead because there is no need to throw resources at a hopeless case. They don't "wake up". Neither do people in a persistent vegetative state (PVS). PVS is different from brain death in that some of the basic functions originating in the brain stem are still active. However, these corpses only have breathing, heart rate, and occasional uncontrolled twitches going for them. Is that what makes a person - his/her breathing, heart beating, and twitches? Hardly. They don't recover brain function. The autopsy of Terri Shiavo's brain found that her brain had shrunk considerably. I bet your right-to-life news didn't mention that part, huh? As with the brain dead, those in a PVS are wasting resources (bed space, medical personnel's time and energy) better used on living people.

Um...yes?

If one has fantasies of "sucking out brains"? One should be in an institution. Alas, Ronnie Raygun made it hard to lock up "Loyal Republicans", I mean the criminally insane.

Yes. Holy fuck yes!

Haha! Great! Now the fuckers LITERALLY cannot tell the difference between a woman and a mindless life-support system!

What if ... I took a pair of scissors and shoved it into the back of the head and sucked their brains out, would that be murder?

Mmmmm, depends...if it was a fundie, they might hardly even notice.

Is this person on life support inside you? Otherwise I don't see the analogy.

Apples and oranges. The (hypothetical) person on life support has already been born, dumbass.

Whoa... scary post is scary.

2/9/2009 4:13:31 AM

Um, yes, and yes? How are these difficult questions? Someone being on life support =/= being a vegetable like Terry Schaivo. You obviously know nothing about how modern medicine works.

2/9/2009 4:34:24 AM

fundiesRtehlulz

That makes no sense. How does a stranger on life support inconvenience you? And yeah, it'd be murder.

2/9/2009 4:55:32 AM

QT

Okay, dude? There's a difference between someone who's totally brain dead, and won't ever recover, and someone who's temporarily on life support and will hopefully recover. If someone's brain dead, then whatever it was that made them, them (the soul, if you're so inclined) is gone.
