@Frank:
Not according to a website that another FSTDTer linked to aaaaages ago. I've forgotten the site but if you're up for it you can search this site for the comment.
Addmittedly the site was kind of racist, but the sources it cited weren't. According their sources the % of white serial killers and black serial killers is roughly in line with the % of whites and blacks in the US (approx. 85%+-ish of serial killers in the US were white, about the same % as whites in the US).
The actual number of white serial killers is much, much greater than non-white in the US, which means most serial killers there are white and if you're killed by one he'll probably be white, but that's because there a far, far more whites in the US. Percentage of population wise, there are not proprtionatly more white serial killers than non-white.
If there was a disproportionate amount of whtie serial killers in the US you'd expect the percentage of serial killers who are white to be significantly larger than the percentage of white people who make up the population of the US - similarly you'd expect the percentage of non-white serial killers to be significantly smaller than the percentage of non-whites who make up the US population. But that doesn't appear to be the case.
Where the disproportion IS found is in gender and age.
The FBI probably profile serial killers as usually being white because in the US they to tend more often than not to be white, because there are more white people in the population in the first place. If you have more people of a certain group in an area chances are most of the crimes will be committed by the larger group simply because there are more of them.
"you're probably better off asking why there are so many white families in the US that beat their kids and overlook it when their kids beat defenseless animals to death than looking for any causal relationship between skin tone and serial murder."
I wasn't, I was doing the exact opposite by trying to demonstrate there is no difference between skin tones in terms of serial killings.
