Advice Needed: How Do I Coexist with Atheists?

I have been a Christian almost all my life and just recently I've been worshiping more than ever. I consult God with just about everything when I remember to. The thing is, I've taken more notice to the atheists and other non-believers around me. Most of which enjoy making rude comments and ask me questions about the Bible that I find difficult to answer.

Being a Christian, I know one is supposed to pray for those non-believers, and I am truly trying, but they make it difficult for me to even care about their well-being.

Does anyone have suggestions for coexisting with atheists?

This may be a novel idea to rebelle_doe but how about treating others with respect.

"...and ask me questions about the Bible that I find difficult to answer. ..."

That right there should tell you everything you need to know. IF there really was a god who wanted people to believe and the bible really was his word, it would be crystal clear to everyone and no one could reasonably dispute it.

Go to the site, and check out the comments to this. I'm extremely surprised by the common sense and tolerance shown there, from both Xtians and atheists.

You have to ask that? Exactly how old are you? You're obviously not a baby, since you can write. You have the vocabulary of a seven year old at least, so you must be at least seven or eight. Weird.

You know what? I'll bet those mean, evil atheists who make your life so very difficult would be nicer if you quit telling them you felt sorry for them and wanted to pray for them! Try saving your pity for the homeless and treating "non-believers" like people. Talk to them about things that aren't religion.

Tell them to stop bringing religion up, and make sure you don't mention it yourself.

It seems cold but if you agree to disagree you can find other common interests.

I agree with David B. If you're starting it, you have only yourself to blame. If they are, tell them they live in a pluralistic society and that tolerance goes both ways.

Most of which enjoy making rude comments and ask me questions about the Bible that I find difficult to answer.

I find is amazing that, when stumped for an answer to a skeptic question about why god is so bloodthirsty and barbaric, they still continue to justify their beliefs. It's quite sad and pathetic.

Not bothering them?
Not being stupid around them?
Not trying to convert them?
Staying out of religious topics IF bothering them?
You know, that's what I'd do if I was in your position.

- Poe, no question about it. A true bible-thumper makes up answers as needed.

Okay, as an atheist, let me give you some advice.

Don't try to convert atheists. Don't brag about how superior you are to them. If you do, then they will respond with criticism just as harsh as, if not more than, your criticism of them. Don't act as if atheists are a bunch of immoral sinners who "just want to live in sin". Last but not least, respect our lack of a religion, and do not try to shove your religion and its arbitrary rules onto us.
