Sheep are people who actually care about people and go out of their way to serve them. It's the difference between sheep and goats.
Goats are people who see the less fortunate and "outcasts" as an eyesore, or "in their way". They see theirselves as better than the homeless, widows, prisoners, orphans.
What's interesting is that the sheep didn't even realize what they had done because it's their nature. It's just normal to care for other people when you are a sheep.

I think he's talking about the bit in the bible where God separates people by what they have done for fellow humans, he forgot to mention and missed the point that the sheep knew they were doing good for people, but they believed to get into heaven they needed to worship God more. The goats thought they would get into heaven because they worshipped God, but they didn't due to their bad deeds towards other humans. Technically this isn't a fundamentalist verse, in fact quite the opposite because the it dictates that those who go to heaven would only do so by helping their fellow humans, fundamentalist therefore seem to be goats.
Sheep are people who don't question, but follow blindly, no matter what the outcome.
Goats ask questions, and work to *change* the things that are wrong and hurtful. It's the "goats" who're out there *helping* people.

Whereas the RR sheep just see unwed mothers, atheists, Catholics and gays as an eyesore or in their way. They see themselves as better than all of us.
@ Mintywolf.
Memo to self: read some Terry Prachett.
There was a bit on the BBC's 'Victorian Farm' recently (it's a TV series where three people live the lives of 1880's English smallholders for a year} which introduced a guy who kept some traditional breed of sheep. As he said, 'the sheep is the only animal in God's creation that's constantly looking for a way to die'.
He'd clearly never heard of Rapture Ready.
Edit: Goats have weird eyes though. I can't warm to the creatures. The only goat I ever liked was curried at Notting Hill festival.
[Goats are people who see the less fortunate and "outcasts" as an eyesore, or "in their way". They see theirselves as better than the homeless, widows, prisoners, orphans. ]
Like a Christian?
@solomongrundy
Everyone should read the Discworld series. A friend bought Small Gods for me, and I was hooked. :) Very relevant to the topic, and I believe where the quote came from IIRC.
And goats *do* have freakin evil eyes, I have to admit. But they're still so cute...
"Goats are people who see the less fortunate and "outcasts" as an eyesore, or "in their way". They see theirselves as better than the homeless, widows, prisoners, orphans"
Goats still have nothing on sheep, who seem to think they're better than all non-sheep, and that their shepherd will give them strong, young bodies that live forever while everyone else will roast in flames for all time.
@Mintywolf: Discworld fans unite!
Uh, that's not how sheep act. Sheep are fucking dumb and only obey one "Judas sheep".
If the Judas won't eat, for example, none of them will eat.
Yay to Terry Pratchett. "To be an atheist on discworld was asking for trouble. Gods would come at night and break the windows at atheist houses.".
Also, god is my shepherd. Thats why he feeds me and keeps me fit, so he can take my wool, milk (for as long as posible) and meat(at the end).
Huh, now I have Cake stuck in my head.
edit: We used to own a goat when I was a kid. One time it got loose and chased me all the way to the front door of the house (I can still see him, in my head, through the window that was in the door, rearing up on his hind legs and beating on the door with his front hooves). I was seven years old and terrified, and I've hated goats from then on.
Gah, terminally simple analogies are not an acceptable substitute for proper, analytical consideration of reality, they're just a starting point for it, and that they can occasionally be used to illustrate deeper concepts does not excuse you from then working out the details of that deeper concept properly.
In case you hadn't noticed, you're neither a fucking sheep nor a goat, you're a human being. Start thinking like one.
"Goats are people who see the less fortunate and "outcasts" as an eyesore, or "in their way". They see theirselves as better than the homeless, widows, prisoners, orphans."
Goats are conservative?
"Sheep are people"
No, they're sheep.
This really doesn't seem all that fundie to me. Yes, it comes from Raptards Ready, but the whole sheep and goats thing is basic Christian theology, and he seems to be trying to encourage people to be good.
@solomongrundy: "Goats have weird eyes though."
Goats and sheep have the same type of eyes. We're just less used to seeing goats than sheep so it tends to stand out more.
I second the curried bit, though.
Rapture ready live broadcast...

Holy Shit, I think he actually understands the parable.
Of course everyone else on the board has some sort of fucked up explanation to get around actually having to be nice to people.
Sheep get fleeced, goats get milked, and let's not forget what is done to those who no longer produce enough to satisfy their owners.
Long term, only the shepherd derives any benefit from the relationship, and who're the shepherds of your flock?
http://www.padfield.com/1999/shepherd.html
Don't be 'produce', tell the shepherds to go f*** themselves and take charge of your own life!
So; sheep - Liberals, goats - Republicans?
It's "themselves", stupid.
Confused?
