What an idiot. I'm married to an hispanic, and I've never heard of ranchero music, although she does refer to her parent's house as "el rancho". Every one of them are legal residents of the US, having all been born in Texas, as her family has been here for many, many generations, longer than many non-hispanic people in this country, including my own family. We both have ancestors that fought in the Texas revolution, but her family was here long before that occurred.
Incidentally, in my 10 years of marriage I've never seen her nor anyone in her family "waving stupid mexican flags" or "protesting in the streets". See, that's called "stereotyping", Cassandra, and it's a stupid, stupid thing to do.

Just as well, it's not my favorite thing to come out of Mexico. They also call it "Banda." It's mostly listened to by 14 year old girls as far as I can tell, so if you've been married for 10 years you will probably have it inflcted on you by your children a few years down the pike unless youth culture moves on again.
In most cities from California to Florida you can get a station called something like Radio Romantica that plays it all the time.
