Actually, though there might be a case for the gasoline tax being too high, the tax on the buying and selling of things is one of the very few truly fair taxes there is. Rich people typically buy more things, and more expensive things, than poor people do; therefore, the rich pay more than the poor, as it should be.

You're partly right. We should be free to buy whatever kind of vehicle we want (and can afford). However, I'm much less worried by people who exaggerate humans' role in global warming than by those who believe global warming isn't a problem at all (or even worse, those who believe the problem is actually a good thing because it's a sign of their messiah's impending return).
