And you, of course, want criminals to suffer.

Yes, in saying we are against executing criminals, what we are REALLY saying is we want a return of bloody, gruesome, public executions. Why the two are practically the same.

Paving the way to remove death penalty altogether, more like it.
Do as most other western countries and abolish the barbaric and medieval torture that is the death penalty.
Or stick with North Korea, Burma, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, China, Saudi Arabia and some African nations, who still kill their own subjects. Nice company you have there...

I say we kill prisoners using the technique used by a small tribe in africa: they tie a vine to a tree then taunt around the prisioners neck. Then they pull the tree down so that theres tension. They behead the prisioner, causing his head to be catapulted so that his last moments are filled with the joy of flight.

So when we see signs of lethal injection being painful we go right back to beheading? Proven to be painful by axe and only faster by guillotine.
We can put people to sleep for long operations that they survive and remember only recrupitive pain, stitches. The formula can be tweeked to that first step, the death penalty opponents are clutching at straws and are gonna gain no ground here.

The current priorities for the execution fetishists is to avoid making the victim's suffering visible, not to make it not happen. Anaesthesia has never been part of the agenda -- the people who demand blood and suffering will continue to demand blood and suffering, no matter how much evidence is gathered as to how ineffective it is and how often people are convicted and sentenced who are innocent.
