The reason why you can not LUMP humans and apes together in the same general category like that... A soul. Tis why we are not primates... We are above ALL these things in a way far more grand than you can likely comprehend... So there's your answer. Basically it boils down to yes, I have hands like an ape, am a mammal (another one of MAN's definitions) like an ape, and have a 'large' brain like an ape. But an ape is an animal along with every other primate... Debase yourself into the same category as chimps if you want. When I go to the zoo I'll be happy to say hello to your relatives for you.

I wish people would let go of the arrogant notion that people have souls and animals do not. I really think this is one of the reasons animals fare so badly at the hands of human beings.

You act like the fact that we're primates and apes is debasing, but then why are you fine considering us mammals? That groups us in not only with primates, but with rats, dogs, shrews, squirrels, cats, seals, weasels, and so on. If being related to other animals is somehow debasing, by your logic, wouldn't it be much more debasing for us to be mammals than primates simply because there are a lot more mammals?

And if we are related to chimpanzees, how does that change anything? If we discover that people don't have souls or that animals do, that would only mean we understand reality better. Reality itself wouldn't have changed in the least.

Please provide evidence for this "soul" thingy.

I find zoos kind of repulsive. Other animals have the right to roam free as well. Chimpanzees are almost as intelligent as we are (in some instances more so than in others). How can we imprison them and make them an exhibit in a zoo? Some chimpanzees have learned sign language and have been perfectly able to communicate with humans. Many chimps are much more humane than some humans are.
