People who hate the Oscars probably hate it for the same reason I do. They're sick of watching filthy rich actors get praised and awarded, as if the millions they get for their work isn't enough, and as if they don't get enough attention.

If I remember correctly Slumdog millionaire was about the horrible life of a street urchin whose mom was killed in the Bombay riots in India and his eventual rise to fame to play who wants to be a millionaire set to an A.R. Rehman soundtrack which makes it very catchy (He did the fairly catchy Chhaiya Chhaiya which is "indians dancing on moving train")

So communists retroactively developed movies in the US and other countries in order to push their ideas even though for the longest time non Soviet films were officially regarded as decadent garbage for using western cultural references and ideas.
