[In response to a letter questioning why God doesn't prevent
suffering]
In the horrific situations mentioned, God was with the little girl as she was being beaten and thrown against the wall, and he was with the other little girl as she was falling from the 190-foot-high bridge. The fact that God does not zap people for saying he is a monster or impotent is further proof that God is merciful.

You're lucky too, because if there was a god, I'm sure he would have his finger on the SMITE button on his computer, waiting for you to walk into his view.
Some people are too stupid to live...
Wait a minute. If god was "with the little girl as she was being beaten and thrown against the wall" and god was "with the other little girl..."
Uh, doesn't that make god an accomplice?
These people's god is a dick!
God is there when you're being savagely beaten. Isn't he merciful?
No sorry, I don't think I can manage the cognitive dissonance to be a Christian.
So if you're elderly, a child, sick, or a believer, god knocks you around like a little bitch, but deny him, call him out on his shit, and spit in his face, and you're fine? Thanks, I'll stay right where I am then, watching your god get buttsecksed by reality.
Dear Mayra
I forgive you for your stupidity. It is your parents' fault, of course. I suppose they started ramming the lies about God and Jesus into your credulous little mind when you were very young. Then if was off to church to listen to one of those smartly dressed men waving the buybull around hollering about hell and damnation.
Now it is time to really think about all the rubbish you have been taught. Question it. Does it make sense that this God who is supposed to be merciful commits such atrocities? Think!
Actually, this is NOT from North Carolina.
The "NC" here stands for "North County," which refers to northern San Diego County. Hell, this assclown isn't even from San Diego County. She's just proselytizing (and doing a very bad job at that).
The more I think of the biblical god the more he comes across like a Mafiosi wiseguy or a bent copper.
"So ya gettin' beaten to a pulp, so what? I said I'd watch over ya, well I watched didn't I? Just be glad I didn't zap yo' ass for saying "Goddamnit" while ya was gettin beaten, ya ungrateful scamp. Nobodies got no respect anymore."
I'm at a loss on what to say to this.
So. . .*fistcomputer*
Have you ever thought that maybe god doesn't exist and that's why the girl gets beaten and the other girl falls from 190 ft. and dies, both without any kind of intervention whatsoever? If he can intervene but won't or can't, then he is a complete fucking dick and isn't worthy of worship.
You know, back when I was younger, I didn't stop believing in God because of evolution, or any other bit of science.
I stopped because the idea that some force so apathetic and malevolent existing and ruling our world was very disturbing to me.
As I grew up and learned about science and whatnot, it was something of a relief that God doesn't exist.
Yaaaaaaaayyy, merciful God!
I'm not a little girl anymore, so I'm safe!
Keep in mind that Clingman is probably claiming that God was comforting the girls in question...
The problem here is that Clingman is inadvertantly suggesting that God's direct power extends ONLY to castigation and punishment, situation of Shadrach notwithstanding. Perhaps a God to take lessons in philosophy from, but not one to depend on for supplying everything...
Never mind that, omnipotence or no omnipotence, depending on God for everything puts me in mind of parasitism...

So I guess technically she's right. God had mercy on the abuser, because the poor abused kids were at his mercy.
Still wouldn't worship the fucker, even if he appeared in front of me.
[God was with the little girl as she was being beaten and thrown against the wall, and he was with the other little girl as she was falling from the 190-foot-high bridge.]
Then why didn't he do anything? I mean, if I saw a little girl falling of a bridge or being thrown against a wall, I'm gonna try to help her.
Observation 1:
God allows people to be tortured and killed, and his only consolation is to "be with them".
Observation 2:
God doesn't strike people down for blasphemy.
Obvious conclusion:
God is either impotent and silent, or nonexistent. Occam's Razor prefers the latter. Either of these is enough to refute Christianity altogether.
The fact that God does not zap people for saying he is a monster or impotent is further proof that God is merciful.
If the christian god was truly merciful, then he would have prevented the abuse and the fall.
In the horrific situations mentioned, Allah was with the little girl as she was being beaten and thrown against the wall, and he was with the other little girl as she was falling from the 190-foot-high bridge. The fact that Allah does not zap people for saying he is a monster or impotent is further proof that Allah is merciful.
Fixed.
God was with this poor 2 year old girl who was beaten to death and another 4 year old was thrown to her death of a bridge! And this is prove that God is merciful because.... he allowed the girl to be murdered and didn't give out any punishment to the sick murderers and hasn't zapped the people who ask if your so damn great why don!t you stop this!!!!!
Mayra I have two young daughters and your comments make me sick. I am livid that you think a merciful God that you follow and worship will quite happily watch two helpless innocents be brutally murdered. But hey I should feel lucky because despite this he has been merciful in not 'zapping' me for thinking he sucks for this. Well Screw you and your depraved perversion of a Religion!
Yes, but that doesn't answer the question. Why didn't he prevent her from being beaten and thrown against a wall in the first place? Surely, that's more suffering and more horrible than someone saying, "Nah, I don't believe in God."
"He could have done a lot worse, but he didn't. That proves he loves me."
Sounds a lot like some one in an abusive relationship. Is this what you lot means when they brag about their "relationship with Jesus?" I admit the analogy isn't perfect though. Abusive partners actually exist.
"The fact that God does not zap people for saying he is a monster or impotent is further proof that God is merciful."
...or he doesn't exist. And the fact suffering exists in the world is further proof of the nonexistence of a 'God'.
God does not kill the people who mock him, for he is merciful!
Instead of killing he just waits for them to die and sends them to hell FOREVER, praise the 'merciful' lord!
The fact that god doesn't zap his critics could also be proof that he doesn't exist.
Just a wild hunch, on my part.
"In the horrific situations mentioned, God was with the little girl as she was being beaten and thrown against the wall, and he was with the other little girl as she was falling from the 190-foot-high bridge. The fact that God does not zap people for saying he is a monster or impotent is further proof that God is merciful."
And with the little girl in France no doubt. In which case, the courts there would show no mercy on him , because that country's 'Good Samaritan' law forces people to intervene to help others in horrific situations, lest they face the wrath of the law themselves for not acting to help out.
I guess that's why God daren't show his face 'round these parts. He'd be tried, found guilty and executed for Crimes Against Humanity.
God doesn't prevent suffering, so God is merciful? How exactly does that work? You speak as if the only intervention could have been violent, and not the more likely scenario with an omnipotent, omnipresent being; Magic arms and holy forcefields, accompanied by giant trumpets poking out of the heavens.
No omnipotent response? The deity is either not omnipotent, not merciful, or nonexistent. Occam's razor would suggest that with the total absence of evidence, the object is totally absent.
Oh look, another Christian non-answer to the question of suffering. Surprise, surprise.
Is god willing and able to prevent evil? Then from whence comes evil?
Is god willing but not able? Then he is impotent.
Is god able but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is god neither willing or able? Then why call him god?
Confused?
