In the horrific situations mentioned, God was with the little girl as she was being beaten and thrown against the wall, and he was with the other little girl as she was falling from the 190-foot-high bridge. Have you ever thought that maybe god doesn't exist and that's why the girl gets beaten and the other girl falls from 190 ft. and dies, both without any kind of intervention whatsoever? If he can intervene but won't or can't, then he is a complete fucking dick and isn't worthy of worship.
You know, back when I was younger, I didn't stop believing in God because of evolution, or any other bit of science.
I stopped because the idea that some force so apathetic and malevolent existing and ruling our world was very disturbing to me.
As I grew up and learned about science and whatnot, it was something of a relief that God doesn't exist.

God was with this poor 2 year old girl who was beaten to death and another 4 year old was thrown to her death of a bridge! Yes, but that doesn't answer the question. Why didn't he prevent her from being beaten and thrown against a wall in the first place? Surely, that's more suffering and more horrible than someone saying, "Nah, I don't believe in God."

And with the little girl in France no doubt. In which case, the courts there would show no mercy on him , because that country's 'Good Samaritan' law forces people to intervene to help others in horrific situations, lest they face the wrath of the law themselves for not acting to help out.
I guess that's why God daren't show his face 'round these parts. He'd be tried, found guilty and executed for Crimes Against Humanity.

You speak as if the only intervention could have been violent, and not the more likely scenario with an omnipotent, omnipresent being; Magic arms and holy forcefields, accompanied by giant trumpets poking out of the heavens.
No omnipotent response? The deity is either not omnipotent, not merciful, or nonexistent. Occam's razor would suggest that with the total absence of evidence, the object is totally absent.
