Q: why do humans have wisdom teeth.

It's because pre-Flood humans were giants (along with all the giant mammals. giant reptiles, giant insects, etc. that we find in the fossil record). The fossil record bears witness of 9-12 ft. tall humans before the Flood.
After the Flood, humans (and everything else) got smaller due to the change in atmosphere; our skulls got smaller, but we still retained the genes for the extra molar. As our skulls got smaller, the number of teeth remained, and are now crowded out on a smaller jaw by the other teeth.

Is this some kind of repeat, or is all the fundie crap blurring together now? I could swear I've read this before...

Does this mean they support the theory of evolution?
Hmmmm...

You're not worthy of using the word "gene"!

Kira is actually somewhat right. One of the theories for wisdom teeth is that the human jaw was larger at one point, and we had more teeth. As humans learned ways to tenderize food, jaws gradually became more delicate.

Another theory is that wisdom teeth would have replaced teeth that most early humans would have lost through regular wear and tear by the time they hit adulthood.

Interestingly, 20% of people never develope wisdom teeth.

Actually humans have wisdom teeth because those extra used to fit in our mouths perfectly and our closest relatives have that many molar teeth naturally. We just haven't had enough time to evolve away those extra teeth, but we've made progress since a lot of people don't have all 4 wisdom teeth. Rarely you can keep your wisdom teeth. The only 1 I have is coming in normally (late obviously but in the right position) so the dentist said its OK to just let that one grow in. It's already poking out.

"And with us today, we have Dr. Queen Kira from the Department of Making Up Bullshit. I understand you have some evidence from the fossil record of 12 feet tall humans?"

"Oh no no. I am just going to state that such evidence exists."

"Oh of course."

*laughter*

I actually had seven wisdom teeth removed and my dentist said I was the "missing link". Fortunately, I'm not even close to 9 feet tall. It would be so hard to find shoes.

And in your hypothesis, these teeth emerge later in life for why?

Something just now occurred to me, and I know I'm probably on the slow-coach for this one, but if people used to be giants, then where are all the giant-people fossils? I mean, we've found the giant-lizards, and the giant-mammals, and the giant-birds, but I've never seen or heard about a giant-person.
