[Senator Schultheis explains his vote against testing pregnant women for HIV]
"What I'm hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that," he said. "The family will see the negative consequences of that promiscuity and it may make a number of people over the coming years begin to realize that there are negative consequences and maybe they should adjust their behavior."

Yes, absolutely, lets condemn children to a life where they may never have sex and must endure constant battles with diseases that aren't harmful to most other people. Kill one innocent to save one thousand? I think the price might be too high.
This guy's a fucking monster and should be booted from office, who the fuck votes for a shitbag like this?
Edit
"People like this have no place in our government. Or society in general."
Fourthed
What I'm hoping is that, yes, the Senator will be pelted with dog feces and tossed into the gutter for stray animals to urinate on. Politicans will see the negative consequences of that stupidity and maybe adjust their behavior.
I'd be laughing but for the fact that I know we've got some utter morons in politics in the UK as well, although, maybe not that idiotic. I suppose fundamentalist madmen think it's biblical for innocent babies to suffer. Either that, or fundies lack the ability to empathise with others, as do psychopaths.
Psychotic lack of empathy appears to be a fundamentalist trait. Perhaps it arises from childhood abuse, either physical, mental, spiritual or sexual or a combination of one or more.
@Pule Thamex
Also it's the fact that they never seem to see the children they speak of as more than a talking point. "That's an innocent child you're killing...or it will be! Why must you be so HEARTLESS!" Never mind the fact that the child will have to like on a medication cocktail from infancy just to survive, can never procreate, lest s/he infect both his/her spouse AND child, and in general will likely lead a pretty miserable existence. But he stopped that evil Mom from killing a baby...to be.
so a child has to live with HIV and AIDS, and maybe die young, just to make its mother feel guilty.
This man is a cunt. and I'm just glad he's not my representative..
@Empress
I'm ashamed he's from the same SPECIES as me!!
He wants the kids to be born with AIDS so that the MOTHER can feel guilt about her "promiscuity"? And then what? When the mom feels guilt, her child is still fucked.
I sincerely hope Schultheis gets sodomized with a meat hook and then proceeds to die in a fire.
...that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up...
Wait, these are the same fundies who ask why should the unborn be penalized when the mother is raped and wants to abort?! And now they want to use the unborn as tools for promoting guilt in the family in an attempt to control their behavior?!
Do these people even know what day of the week it is?!
"The family will see the negative consequences of that promiscuity and it may make a number of people over the coming years begin to realize that there are negative consequences and maybe they should adjust their behavior. "
So, basically, your solution is to do nothing, and let someone else suffer as an example that might make someone decide not be "promiscuous?"
Wait, is he saying that only the bad people catch serious diseases?
Senator, there's this play called "Anatomy of Grey". I think you should see it.
This just proves that some people belong in a monkey cage, and maybe, some day, their descendants will evolve sufficiently to be let out.
It appalls me that there were enough idiots in one place to elect this douchebag. When I was young, I was brutalized and picked on to the point that I fantasized a brutal revenge on my tormentors. I wanted to strip them naked, and drag them down a beach until all the skin was abraded off, then throw them into the ocean. This torture strikes me as too good for the likes of Senator David Scheisskopf.
The consequences of religious brain rot.
I am not an American but feel as ashamed and appalled that such an evil, small minded, brain addled, little shit can be elected to a public office anywhere.
FEEL THAT GODDAMN CHRISTIAN LOVE!
But seriously, this has to be one of the most evil people quoted here. And that is fucking saying a lot!
I'm not sure what this incoherence means, but running on the assumption that it means "more HIV-infected babies will make America more moral" ... get impeached, seriously. Do you have any fucking clue what you're talking about, Senator? How in all hell can people promote disease like this??? How the fuck did this ... aaargggh.
"AIDS improves morality", yeah, if you believe that, go visit Swaziland (highest AIDS rate on Earth). And try to run for election THERE rather than in a nice place like Colorado.
@Pule Thamex: "Psychotic lack of empathy appears to be a fundamentalist trait." I'd argue that lack of empathy in some way or another (whether it's callousness to suffering, or just the inability to consider other points of view) is the main factor that makes someone what we'd consider fundie, not just strongly believing or opinionated. Whether it's Islam, Christianity, atheism, capitalism (Ayn Rand, anyone?), environmentalism ... even good causes can be corrupted easily into extremism, without empathy.
And if the mother wasn't promiscuous, but was raped? Or the mother wasn't promiscuous, but the husband was? You really haven't thought this through, and you're an elected official. Remind me to never live in Colorado. If one of their senators is this fucking stupid, just think how idiotic the people are who elected him.
...RETURN TO NOTHING.
I'm starting to wonder if fundamentalists regard love as a heresy...At least, any love other than the "devouring" love embodied by Screwtape.
I suppose the new question is, did they lose empathy without realizing it, and so mistake something else for empathy, or did they consciously and willingly abjure it, naming it impure?
Punishing future generations for mistakes their parents made, it's so Christian, The LORD would be so proud of him right now (you know, if he really is the dick portrayed in the bible).
I suppose the new question is, did they lose empathy without realizing it, and so mistake something else for empathy, or did they consciously and willingly abjure it, naming it impure?
To be fair, there's little empathy present in the Bible (and less in the Koran). Damning to eternal torment is more the order of the day. OK, so Jesus sometimes showed empathy (although less than you might expect if you actually take the time to read the Gospels) but Paul, beloved of fundies, was a self-righteous bigot of the worst order.
That's the craziest fucking thing about the whole Fundie appeal to consequences. They'll often tell you something you want to do is bad because traditionally it has negative consequences, modern science finds a way to avert those consequences, and rather than celebrating that something bad has, by their own definition, been made good by removing its negative effects, they inexplicably hold that the now consequenceless action is still inherently bad somehow and actually try to put the consequences back again.
@Pule Thamex, dg: Lack of Empathy is I've noticed as well. Most fundies can't seem to even realize that other people could possibly think differently let alone feel differently than them. Hence the constant insistence that non-Christians must "worship" Darwin or anyone or anything else held in high esteem.
@Headache: 'bumbling frotting moron'
what's that, someone who fails at non-penetrative gay sex? :B
but in seriousness, yeah, this guy needs to fucking die.
Seriously, guys. Electing Obama was a good first step, but you've got to get rid of fuckheads like this.
(Alas, I wouldn't be so surprised if some member of my own government had said something just as sick.)
Hmmm. He seems to be suggesting that when people become aware of the negative consquences suffered by others they will be deterred from similar behavior.
Well, god knows it worked with the death penalty. That's why no body is ever murdered in states like Texas. Never, ever.
uhm, thejebusfire? you are being a sexist, religious douche too.
"Why should the child pay for the sins of the mother?"
so women getting AIDS is a result of their SIN? christ, you'd fit right in.
guess what fucktards, women are humans that have just as much right to have sex as any man. your double standards expose you as a fucking cock-knocking asshole. so please don't bring that ignorant shit up in here.
Vile, horrid, repulsive, abhorrent and black-hearted don't even begin to hint at the true nature of that monstrosity.
Maybe they weren't promiscuous. Maybe the mother had a blood transfusion before that year they started testing for HIV, and contracted the virus from that. Maybe the husband/boyfriend gave the mother HIV. Or maybe she was raped and got the virus from her rapist. Not all women are dirty sluts, you pig.
Confused?
