I know many happy athiests and many depressed Christians.

Atheists did you know happiness is a Christian concept?
That is only TRUE for pre-historic happiness, the happiness we all enjoy today, the post-modernistic happiness is purely a secular concept.
Get with the program before it is too late!

The terminally constipated sourpuss fundie, beating himself/herself in the head with a Bible, sitting in righteous cold and holy darkness and chanting: "I am happy. This is joy. I am happy. This is joy...."

Am I unhappy about not being able to give my money to a guy that tells me I will suffer for all eternity for not believing in his invisible man in the sky?
3/12/2009 7:54:46 PM
what did people do before jesus?

Yo no soy marinero. Soy capitan.

THAT IS THE MOST CONVINCING ARGUMENT EVAR
3/12/2009 8:08:27 PM
I think this fellow is trying to convince himself that he is happy. I do not for one moment think he is actually happy and content with his life.
3/12/2009 8:09:45 PM
I hope that's a poe.
3/12/2009 8:17:36 PM
You have no idea what happiness really feels like, do you. How incredibly sad.
3/12/2009 8:19:11 PM
Because this guy is just so damn depressed
3/12/2009 8:22:14 PM
No it's not.
3/12/2009 8:40:10 PM
I would call you a fucking retard, but then that would be an insult to the people who are genuinely disabled and have an excuse.

Allegory for Jesus
"Happiness and the concept of happiness was first mentioned in the Bible."
He's kidding, right? He really thinks that no one prior to that had ever described happiness? Did they simply not experience happiness themselves prior to the Bible being put to paper, or were they rendered incapable of describing that happiness? Because, unless he expects that this is the case, I can only assume that is stupid and/or insane.

I feel sorry for whoever ends up with him as their pilot.

"Happiness", noun, from "happy", adjective, originally "lucky", from "hap", meaning "chance, fortune, luck". Sense of "very glad" first recorded in 1390. Replaced Old English "eadig" and "gesaelig", the latter of which eventually became "silly". Old English "bliðe", also meaning "happy", eventually became "blithe". The Old English words are attested before 1000 CE, while the concept of happiness goes back at least to the fourth millennium BCE, when Proto-Indo-European (or PIE), the ultimate ancestor of modern English (as well as all the Germanic, Celtic, Slavic, and Romance languages, as well as Greek, Albanian, Lithuanian, and many others) was spoken. Words for happiness in modern descendants of PIE can be traced back to words originally meaning things like "fruitful" and "shining".

Captain Idiot, it doesn't matter when happiness was first mentioned, happiness is not some idea (concept) that someone thought of. Happiness is an emotional experience. The word is just used to explain what you are feeling.
But if what you mean is that Christianity is the source of Atheist happiness... well stupid Christians sure are a source of Atheist joy and laughter.

Happy Buddha for the win!

Good news: You have to believe in my special religion to be saved from hell in which you wouldn't be go going if I didn't tell you it exists.
3/12/2009 10:01:40 PM
That was amazing. This level of stupidity is almost as hard to believe as christianity itself.

One of his other questions: "Is it OK to take Zoloft and an antipsychotic med like Clozaril at the same time?" explains a great deal.

Oh shit, I was so full of happiness I forget how I was depressed, or something.
3/12/2009 11:17:22 PM
I would be surprised if there isn´t a single reference to happiness in the Gilgamesh-Epos.
And the Gilgemesh Epos predates Genesis by at least half a millenium, maybe even more than a whole millenium ;)
It might even be that certain stories in genesis have their origin in stories of the Gilgamesh epos (Noah and the global flood for example ;) )
