How could any thinking person take seriously a 'religion' that was started by a science fiction author, and a bad one at that?

Yeah, I know! If Bradbury had started one, way more people would've joined. ^^
Yes, people, he's talking about Scientology. Ahh, Scientology. ^^
Yeah, Outerworldly beings and spirits, that's just stupid. Christianity doesn't do this,,,,much,,,,well, quite a lot actually
The Abrahamic faiths may be far more sadistic, violent and twisted, but when it comes to sheer in-your-face stupidity; no one can topple Scientology in the top spot.
Also, I do agree with the fundie's opinion of Hubbard's writing prowess; Arthur C. Clarke or Isaac Asimov would've done a much better job, fortunately their artistic integrity was on par with their talent.
The Erisian Liberation Front Pspecial Agent Wilde wonders how anyone can believe a religion that was started by barely literate peasants from antiquity, and ones who plagiarised most of it at that. The struggle between Hodge and Podge cannot be resolved by the death of one carpenter! May you feel the hand of Eris and know her intent! fnord
(Alright, I know he means Scientology, and he's right, if somewhat hypocritical. Nonetheless, Discordianism > Christian fundamentalism. Also, what do fundies know about good SF?)
