If they're autistic than you must have something far FAR worse.
As I've remarked on an older post, I sometimes wonder if religious fundies are about as far away from normal as those who are autistic, but in the opposite direction. A classic trait I've seen attributed to autism is "mind blindness," the inability to comprehend, or even conceive of the existence of, intelligences beside one's own, whereas religious fundies seem to perceive intelligence even where it isn't, perhaps equally unable to conceive of anything in the universe not being under the control of some sentience's will.
Addendum to my original post: mind blindness is, as far as I know, a symptom of particularly strong cases of autism. Anyone who's mildly autistic here, and apparently we have a few, please don't take offense at my earlier description of the spectrum in terms of its extreme, limiting case.

I love the whole "I have this vague idea that something is true, can someone find a study that backs me up on it?" aspect, not even pretending to have read "somewhere" that this is the case or anything. Research studies aren't there for you to pick and choose based on what backs up your irrational opinions!
Amusing how the commenter conflates Rand, Shermer, and Dawkins. Shermer is a libertarian but not a Randroid, and Dawkins and Shermer probably don't see eye-to-eye on many political issues.

I liked Dawkins book, particularly how productive and uplifting it was. I also think that his ego is a bit big and he's a humourless tosser who only likes "the hitchhikers guide to the universe" and the classics.
Therefore, I don't worship him, I just know that he talks sense, and he clearly cares about humanity.
Therefore, I'm not blindly loyal.
