Quote# 60974

Unfortunately I paid money to watch Watchmen.... I am 22 years old and most people my age (well lately its just most people) think its a little weird that I will not watch movies that are rated R. But my husband wanted to see Watchmen and from the previews I thought it might be okay. I was so disappointed! The movie was filled with violence for one thing but also I thought "why in the world do we need to see naked characters all the time!" And you may find this amusing but I wont let my husband watch sex scenes (of course I don't watch them either) so we covered our eyes. Alot! I just kept wondering what has happened to society that this kinda movie is acceptable? Also violence upsets me and I cover my eyes not to have those images stick in my head. So I think all in all I had my eyes cover for at least half the movie. I also didn't think the movie was that good in general. As we left the theater I remarked to my husband that I didn't think the movie would have done very well without all the graphic violence and nudity to interest people. I said it with a sigh. The world is starting to worry me now that I am old enough to pay attention to what is going on.

You do know Watchmen is around 20yrs old don't you?

Wow...you still cover your eyes when a nude body flashes on the screen!? Um...grow up. Please.

Oh noes!! Boobies!! Quick honey! Cover your eyes!

Wait- you made your husband cover his eyes? That makes me wonder whether he was really wanting to cover his eyes or if he was just humoring his wife.

I really would have liked to watch you watching watchmen

:D

Dr. Manhattan is nude because he has lost touch with humanity. It was nothing I haven't seen in art class.

There is a lot of violence to show how disturbed humans are.

Good call! I do find that amusing. It would be likely entertaining for me to watch a movie of you and your husband reacting to every set of boobies or buns that are on the screen. Laughable christian half-wits that watch violence and cruelty without a murmur but get their panties in a twist because they see what a human body looks like.

The world is starting to worry me now that I am old enough to pay attention to what is going on.
Hehehe, you ain't seen nothing yet.

I remember when I used to cover my eyes during movies. . .back when I was 6. I'm sure a lot of people in the theater weren't paying attention to the movie because they were too busy pointing and laughing at you-- kinda like I'm doing to my compuer monitor right now.

Way to completely miss the point of the movie.

@Argle Bargle

That's because she was too busy covering her eyes through the whole thing to actually watch the movie and get the point of it. I kind of agree with the first sentence of this. I can't believe she actually paid money for a movie she wasn't going to watch either.

"So I think all in all I had my eyes cover for at least half the movie. I also didn't think the movie was that good in general."

Well, you apparently missed half the movie, which sort of disqualifies you from making any valid aesthetic judgments of it, no?

they probably only went to see it having read some Rorschach quotes thinking that the right-wing ideals he spouts would be depicted sympathetically...

And yeah, hooray for completely missing the point.

If your eyes were covered, how do you know your husband's were? ;-)

3/29/2009 8:09:48 AM

If you liked the violence in Watchmen that much, then you'll really love the Old Testament.

Do you cover your eyes when you're fucking each other as well?

Are you seriously, as married adults still childishly afraid of sexuality? Or perhaps is your commitment to the relationship, and your trust that your partner will reciprocate it, so fucking weak that you think goddamn movie sex will steal hubby away from you?

Personally, I loved the movie when I saw it two weeks ago with my husband, and I'm delighted to be going back to see it today with my oldest son.

The boobies and penis *gasp* do not offend me.

Of course, I'm willing to entertain the possibility that my not being part of a religion that views the human body as sinful, evil and disgusting contributes to my ability to behave like an adult and actually enjoy a film, rather than embarrass myself acting like an affronted six year-old.

Had you been blessed with an intellect greater than that of a glob of algae, you would have considered checking out the film's rating, which is 'R'. If you go to see a film you know has an R rating, you forfeit all right to bitch if you're exposed to language that offends you and the occasional glimpse of flesh. Moron.

Of course the movie wouldn't have done well without the violence and sex. Most of them wouldn't. Most, the vast majority, of modern movies are either completely unimaginative or rip-offs of something older that was successful. That's why I never go to the movies, it's a total waste of money.

Jezebel's Evil Sister

Eh, I bet you spend most of your life with your eyes closed, your ears covered, and your mind shut off to other viewpoints ... it's the only way to remain a True Christian™.

It's good that you don't let your husband watch sex scenes. That'll make sure he never thinks about it.
/sarcasm.
Your husband is either humouring you as he would a child, or obeying you as he used to obey his mother. Whichever it is, this is not a healthy relationship.

She's 22 and only now she's looking at the world around her? That's a little late. @_@

I'd explain the point of the sex and violence in the movie but you'd have your fingers in your years.

"And you may find this amusing but I wont let my husband watch sex scenes (of course I don't watch them either) so we covered our eyes."

You mean you THINK he covered his eyes. You wouldn't be able to tell considering your eyes were covered.

Such childish reactions to nudity in film only proves that you are far too immature to marry or have children.

3/29/2009 9:02:09 AM

ozznova

So you and your husband are small children who don't understand that when a movie is rated "R" it is usually rated that way for a reason?

You are a very repressed person.
Please just stay at home and away from the real world.
