The Bibles have been confiscated and destroyed by U.S. military chaplains.
(The bibles in question were ones that had been translated into Pashto and Dari, the two major languages of Afghanistan, that had been aquired by members of the Chaplains Service from an outside third party.)
Good. It's not the place of the military, any military, to go about trying to convert an occupied country. It's a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and it's counter productive.
Christians are commanded by the Lord of the Universe to spread the Gospel no matter what the cost.
Christian are also commanded to obey the laws of man in addition to the laws of "god".
He supercedes the United States government and its ever-growing anti-Christian actions.
What anti christian actions? This isn't an anti-christian action, all military officers, soldiers, and chaplins are aware that from square one that attempts to convert the population in any theatre of operation is forbidden. This is not a new policy, this is not directed at christian, The chaplains in question violated direct orders and the oath they took upon entering the military.
You simply can't go around spreading your religion at gunpoint. Do you think the population of Afghanistan will see it as a good hearted christian attempt to bring them to jesus, or will they see it as a forced conversion backed by the full power of the US military?
The chaplains, at least the "Christian" ones, should be stripped of their ordination by their church. If they are Catholic Christians, they should be excommunicated!
Why just the christian ones? The rule applies to all religions, not just christianity. The Chaplain Service forbidden to attempt to convert a native population to Hinduism, Mormonism, Islam, or any other religion.
Quit acting like this is some kind of action directed a christians alone, it isn't. It's a matter of some chaplains that violated the law, the fact that they are christians is incedental at best.
It is highly questionable whether Christians can continue to serve in the U.S. military.
Why? Because some other christians violated the UCMJ? If a particular christian feels that they cannot serve in the military without ignoring the code of conduct and violating their oath or the UCMJ then maybe they shouldn't serve in the military.
In closing, If officers in the military are allowed to go around proselytizing then the end result will be a population that sees US soldiers as attempting to destroy their way of life, it will galvanize the not just the occupied population, but the entire muslim world. It will make any action against our soldiers seem justified to the muslim world, it will erode any legitimacy the US occupation has. The end result will is that more american troops, boys and girls in the prime of their lives, will die, their friends and families will suffer, all because some self righteous christians feel that they must, regardless of the oath they took, regardless of the consequences, convert every single muslim that they can.
You are advocating that people die just so you can pad your statistics and feel that your religion is superior. The motto of the US military is not "Christianity uber Alles" and it is not the place of the military to convert the world for jesus, but you can't seem to see that. You would rather have innocent soldiers and civilians die so that you can feel righteous. Congratulations, you represent everything that is wrong with religion.
