(quote #22)

Power to the people of Maine. VETO!!!! And i hope Gov. Lynch also has the courage to NOT sign NH's passage either. Soon enough, the marriage license is going to be just for gays, and hopefully conservative churches will push for a new form of christian marital registration, called the blessed union, and can only be signed by church leaders of conservative churches who still hold that the sanctity of marriage is between man and woman. And that too, shall be recognized by the government whether they like it or not. I truly hope churches support us believers of the marital faith of man and woman and join forces in creating the blessed union document, signed and sealed in the conservative faith.

Newsflash. Non-gays can still get married.

5/9/2009 9:52:44 AM

aaa

Is this the best you could come up with?

so let me get this straight... you want people to go vote to deny gays to marry, but insist that the government acknowledge your made-up blessed unions "whether they like it or not"?

yay for hypocrisy

I truly hope churches support us believers of the marital faith of man and woman and join forces in creating the blessed union document, signed and sealed in the conservative faith.

But it's the gays that want special privileges. Oh you betcha.

the conservative faith
Fuck off, you piece of dogshit! If there is a God, I would expect he/she/it doesn't care about your political party (!), but the obvious joy you take in cruelty.

Sorry for the outburst. To me, thinking your political party is "God's party" is pretty much like thinking your race is "God's race".

I actually have no problem with his "blessed union" concept. Gays need to have the right to marry, with all the legal privileges that entails. If certain churches want to restrict who they marry, and call the ceremonies they do perform "super-duper extra-special marriage", that's their right. It will only marginalize them further.

Umm, you do realilze that fundemantilist raptards have the HIGHEST rate of divorce, right?
But in the unlikely event that you mean that you people will be limited to one marriage, I'm all for it. So if you get married and your first spouse is an abuser and you have to get divorced you can never be remarried. That will help limit the fundie birth rate as there will be no subsequent marriages to allow them to breed more raptards. Yay!

Absolutely true, but that's already taken care of. I have friends who aren't considered married in the eyes of the catholic church because they married a protestant. No one's the worse for it besides the Catholic church, which simply looks even sillier.

Where do you come up with these stupid fucking ideas?

can only be signed by church leaders of conservative churches

Because only Bible Bob's Snake-Handling Church of the Pentecostal Fire of Jesus Christ is the True Church. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

As a straight woman, I would like to apologize on behalf of all others of my sexual preference and state that I have no problem SHARING WORDS with gay people.

Yes, it will be just like what happened when mixed race couples were allowed to marry. Now two people of the same race can't get a marriage license!

And those "holy unions" will still fail 50% of the time. Haha, go use a hot wax enema you tard.

Maybe if you all paid this much attention to your own marriages the divorce rate among Christians wouldn't be so high.

"And that too, shall be recognized by the government whether they like it or not."

Isn't that kind of the point for a gay person to be able to get the same rights joined with their partner as a straight person gets while joined with theirs? I'll admit I don't know any gay activists fighting to get married - I live in Texas where a hanging would be a real possibility - but I'm pretty sure they're not trying to take away a straight person's right to get married. They just want that same right.

Thinking Allowed

Don't celebrate so fast there M-356362. There's no veto on the bill. What is happening is proponents of the bill have to collect at least 55,087 in order for the people's veto. That means 55,087 registered Maine voters, not someone who is unregistered and/or not a Maine resident. Good luck there M-356362.

Churches are already authorized to conduct legal marriages, and can set their own rules about who may or may not marry within the church. The Catholic Church, for example, has numerous rules regarding what they consider to be a valid marriage. If "conservative" churches want to create "blessed unions" and refuse to recognize same sex marriages, they're already free to do that.

Dr. Novakaine

Hey, I don't care of Lynch signs it or not, as long as he doesn't veto it, it will still be law. And then that will be one more state that had the courage to stop appeasing fundie assholes who like to spread hatred and suffering.

[Soon enough, the marriage license is going to be just for gays, ]

Yes, just like it's just for interracilal couples. Wait...

[the sanctity of marriage is between man and woman]

You know, if the "sanctitiy" of marriage is so important to you, then why do Christian conservatives have one of the nations highest divorce rates?

[I truly hope churches support us believers of the marital faith of man and woman and join forces in creating the blessed union document, signed and sealed in the conservative faith.]

And you say the gays are the ones who want the specail rights.
Look, if you want to live in a country thats ruled by religion, move to Iran.

I´m sure that gays won´t mind if narrow minded people like you rename their form of marriage. As long as married gay couples get the same rights as married heterosexual couples, everything is O.K. ;)

5/9/2009 12:38:13 PM

Papabear

Your moronic church won't have to marry same-sex couples whether or not such marriages are legal in your state. No church leadership has to marry any couple they don't want to.

5/9/2009 12:56:36 PM

Mudak

Meanwhile, some of the more "liberal" churches today are already consecrating both same-sex and opposite-sex marriage, while only the opposite-sex marriages are recognized by the government.

That's ultimately what it boils down to: let the different religions decide which unions to "bless" or not. But whatever else is true, let the government recognize both same-sex and opposite sex marriage.

I mean, why should the government have any say in real say in the process by which two people pair up, share living expenses, and eventually stop having sex with each other?

"and hopefully conservative churches will push for a new form of christian marital registration, called the blessed union, and can only be signed by church leaders of conservative churches who still hold that the sanctity of marriage is between man and woman."

Read. Your. Fucking. Bible.

Does King Solomon or King David ring any bells? And how many wives/concubines did they have again?

"And that too, shall be recognized by the government whether they like it or not."

Only if they can make money out of it which is the only reason marriage "licenses" are around anyway.

"I truly hope churches support us believers of the marital faith of man and woman and join forces in creating the blessed union document, signed and sealed in the conservative faith."

Good luck with that.

No. Just... no. The whole point of Marriage EQUALITY is that any two consenting adults should be able to get married to each other (you know, if they're not currently married to someone else, cause then it'd be polygamy, which is illegal.)
