Uh... no. See, they ask that question in order to
a) Get the right holy shaman in case your condition is life threatening (wouldn't want to call in a priest or imam for a bible thumpin baptist)
b) Establish whether you will have any dietary restrictions
c) Figure out if there are any other religo-cultural barriers you might have (e.g., you're male and cannot, by religious ban, be cared for by a woman, etc.)
You see, SECULAR hospitals just want to be accommodating of all religions, as best as possible.

Believe me they persecute everyone just the same no matter what your religion.
5/15/2009 3:24:23 PM
There's only one cross they give a fuck about, and it has fuck-all to do with religion.
5/15/2009 3:28:30 PM
Yep, it's right there in paragraph three of the Hippocratic Oath:
"I will ask my patient's religion, and if he is a fundamentalist Christian, I will persecute him."
5/15/2009 3:36:46 PM
Paranoid AND an idiot. Good job.
5/15/2009 3:38:27 PM
in what way do you think you would be persecuted?
5/15/2009 3:51:20 PM
Wow. Everyone else in that thread is being pretty rational and non-paranoid. Maybe the rapture happened and they were replaced by robots.
5/15/2009 4:09:28 PM
They wanted to know so they could give you only the treatments that are consistent with creationist biology. Yeah, you would've been in trouble.
5/15/2009 4:13:56 PM
Absolutely. If you're a fundie, they tell you to go home and pray it away, so they have more beds for real patients.
ETA: I have to admit I'm rather impressed with the responses on the thread. They're all so...rational.
5/15/2009 4:18:15 PM
Do what I do. Tell them "Druid." The consternation is highly amusing.
5/15/2009 4:21:05 PM
oh ok. i just never heard a first aider ask me my religion. i thought they would persecute me once i got short of breath. ok im ok now. god bless thanks all.
PS. It hurt me to copy this drivel without using capitals and apostrophes.
5/15/2009 4:21:19 PM
Aarrgghh! These people! These stupid, deluded, paranoid, narcissistic, self-absorbed, self-regarding, sanctimonious, arrogant, ignorant people! Were they dropped on their heads as children?!
"i thought they would persecute me...", Holy Fuck! <wanders off, muttering>
5/15/2009 4:40:11 PM
I had to delete my submission of this, but reading her original post first makes this comment even worse. (I had included it as well.) The whole thread is weird.
5/15/2009 5:02:30 PM
Hospitals ask for your religious beliefs so they would know if you have religious medical restrictions or not.
5/15/2009 5:17:39 PM
sorry about that.
Delete button back please.
5/15/2009 5:23:13 PM
They needed to know as to whether they should prepare a rubber room for you. You must have lied about your religion.
5/15/2009 5:29:35 PM
I thought these guys were disdainful of scientific discoveries and especially treatments that use biology and knowledge gained from evolution. What's this fundie doing in a hospital availing herself of hospital knowledge?
5/15/2009 7:40:47 PM
Because it's none of their business what religion you are, and it's THEIR GODDAMN JOB TO HELP PEOPLE, REGARDLESS OF RELIGION (Yours *or* theirs)!
5/15/2009 8:45:18 PM
Jeez, is there ever a time when you people think others AREN'T persecuting you?
5/15/2009 9:15:14 PM
on a side note, i totally stole paul_answers' signature. the cake eating smiley is funny :)
on the topic...no they ask you so they can ACCOMADATE your religion better.
5/15/2009 10:35:17 PM
These people are terrified of the world around them.
It's so sad. I actually hate fundies less after reading this.
5/16/2009 12:07:13 AM
Now you know why you should respect doctors.
5/16/2009 12:46:14 AM
"i thought they would persecute me once i got there."
I'll bet you did. Your the kind of person who dreams of the day someone will persecute you for your beliefs just so you can run home, jump on RR and brag about how those dirty heathens were so rude but you just accepted it because you're soooo Christ-like.
5/16/2009 12:51:34 AM
"i just never heard a hospital ask me my religion"
Why would a building be talking to you?
5/16/2009 1:25:49 AM
I'd give this just a bit more than a meh, it's quite sane for a RR thread.
