Quote# 62311

By the way, why did the carp not evolve over a 200 million year period? If evolution is a reality where did it go with the carp? I guess that evolution just decided to take a break with the carp since he was rather tried from all that work with them other creatures. Does gravity take a break with some folks, I never heard of gravity failing to work, why did evolution fail to work with the carp if evolution is as solid a fact as is gravity?

Because the carp IS the product of millions of years of evolution, and its well-adapted to its environment.

When are these dipshits going to learn that the purpose of evolution is not to make everything into human beings, or some other sentient type creature. Evolution goes for conditions required to pass genes on, and the carp has that in spades.

sometimes when i get reeeally high, it feels like gravity is taking a break.

how do you know if carp didnt evolve?

The carp is one of the most successful and widely-spread fish on the planet. I'd say evolution worked pretty well for it.

By the way, why did the carp not evolve over a 200 million year period? If evolution is a reality where did it go with the carp?

Because it has no need to evolve, as the carp's environment hasn't changed, so there is no need for the carp to change.

It is good that you ask questions about things that you do not understand. The next step is to take notice of the answers.

By the way, why did the carp not evolve over a 200 million year period?

Who's saying it didn't? The modern carp is the result of millions of years of evolution.

If evolution is a reality where did it go with the carp?

It made it a carp.

I guess that evolution just decided to take a break with the carp since he was rather tried from all that work with them other creatures.

No one is saying that the carp didn't evolve. The carp is a prolific species that is well adapted to it's enviroment and therefore there are less natural selective pressures upon it. Evolution is not a "thing", it has neither motive nor goal, it has no awaresness, it is simply a description of a natural process.

Does gravity take a break with some folks, I never heard of gravity failing to work,

Then why are you the one claiming that evolution skipped over the carp? People with even the slightest understanding of evolutionary biology understand that you proposition is simply not true.

why did evolution fail to work with the carp if evolution is as solid a fact as is gravity?

Once again, it didn't "fail" to work, nor did it "try" to work. Those are concept that cannot appliy to evolutionary theory because they require evolution to have thought processes and defined goals that it works toward. That isn't evolutionary theory, that fundiespeak for "Hey, check out this new strawman I just kicked the shit out of. I'm so glad I know more about biological processes that people who have made it their life's work.".

Why don't you people at least educate yourself on the subject of evolutionary theory before you go around acting as if you are an authority on the subject. Watching fundies like yourself speak about evolution as if you know what it's about is like watching you open your mouth only to kick your own teeth in, and I must admit that is rather humourous.

I notice you haven't evolved from toxic pond slime.

And when you're sitting there typing bollocks on the internet, why do you not continue to fall? Has gravity stopped acting on you or are there just no outside pressures which make gravity noticeable at the moment...?

Evolution is not an entity.

5/15/2009 2:12:11 AM

Because if it ain't broke, Mother Nature don't fix it.

The carp have already evolved into a successful species; the selective work has long been done.

When you mow the lawn, you pretty much stop once you've hit all of it; you probably do some fine-tuning and detail work, but as far as mowing goes, it's basically over. It's not that there'll never be more tall grass ever again, it's just that, for the time being, your lawn is exactly the way it needs to be to make you happy.
And when the tall grass comes back, you start to mow again, and the whole process starts over, and keeps going until once again things are as they need to be -- unless of course your lawn dies, or you move away, or you decide to scrap everything and start over with xeriscaping.

To keep with my crappy analogy, let's say that the carp has had all its grass mowed for a very long time now; it's right where it needs to be for optimum survival -- right there in the sweet spot as far as adaptation to environment/evolution goes. And apparently it did a damn good job on its "lawn" the first time around, because it hasn't had to do much since.

By the way, why did the moon not fall over a 200 million year period? If gravity is a reality where did it go with the moon? I guess that gravity just decided to take a break with the moon since he was rather tried from all that work with them apples.

By the way, why did the fundie not evolve over a 6000 year period? If God is a reality where did He go with the fundie? I guess that God just decided to take a break with the fundie since he was rather tried from all that work with them other creatures. Neither evolution nor gravity ever decides to take a break. Only God does that. If you're going to preach against modern science, try actually reading what you want us to believe instead.
