"I beat him severely with canes until they broke, yet he never shed a tear," said Eshiett Nelson Eshiett, 76. "One day, I took a broom to hit him and he started crying. Then I knew he was possessed by demons. ... Nigerian witches are terrified of brooms."

Africa is fucked. You can send all the food you want but you can't get people to stop doing this shit. we could help out with the AIDS problem through education and BC, but the pope says no. Nigerians are burning witches and killing albinos because of superstition. I just wish there was some way to stop this.
What about vacuum cleaners? Floor polishers? Whisk brooms? Dusters?
Child abuse is a crime in any human society and you, gramps, are guilty by your own admission.
Thank you Christian Missionaries for this wonderful work of God you have brought these people!
It's refreshing to see how the lovely people of Nigeria threw out the superstition of science and found God!
So, please dear US Evangelicals, please send more missionaries!
Thank You!
Africa!
BURN THE WITCH!!
There. I said it.
Until Africa rids itself of this superstitious bullshit then nothing is ever going to improve for those most in need. Plus of course you have the Vatican shoving its big, fat nose in, condemning thousands to death by their irresponsible and indefensible stance against the use of condoms. Religion truly is monstrous and utterly callous in respect of human dignity.

Oddly, if you look at things historically, Africa was actually full of civilized nations before Europe forcefully colonized it and before they were 'converted' to various forms of Christianity and Muslim. I really believe had it been left alone without the influence of certain religions it would have done so much better. Even today nothing will get done until we can pry them away from those influences and secularize them.

No, I think it must have been a magic broom that put a curse on the boy to make him cry... but that would mean, that you're the witch, grandad!
Whoops, room on the fire for another?
Nigerian witches are terrified of brooms
Yes, and atheists are afraid of being hit by fast-moving bullets. It's our one weakness.
Here's how you know it's not a witch: A broom works against them
Here's how you know it's not a witch: Granddads in one piece and able to talk
If there was one real witch all these witchhunters would be dealt with long ago. Morons
In the 21st century with this sort of superstition and nonsense is truly disheartening.
I'd expect to read this in a history book about the Middle Ages. If only there were more economic and educational opportunities and such for these countries.

Africans may have had some nice civilizations but they were rife with superstition, magical thinking, slavery and racism too. Don't delude yourself into thinking this is a Christian or Muslim thing - the church (and the imams) merely had to cash in on pre-existing notions (such as the belief in witches).
As a matter of fact most Christian and Muslim superstitions and mythology usually stem from their respective pagan roots.

Possibly.
Fuck cultural relativism. Seriously, just fuck it in the ass. There is no logical argument to deny that some cultures are inferior to others. Crap like this is only proof.
Sending money each year to Africa will not solve the problem; the people and their governments need to repair themselves before money will make things better.
Even people on the Rapture Ready board would probably condemn this guy's actions.
Unless he were Christian, in which case he'd be revered as a hero.
@Shane
And I wish someone would shoot all the so called "Witch Detectors".
It's all just another "Nigerian Scam" those monsters pretend to be able to "find witches" when they just pick one random suspisious person, kill them, then reap whatever reward they get.
Scum
I was about to say "Cool your jets with the anti-Christian stuff, guys. This is probably a tribal thing." But upon reading the article, I have found that is not the case.
So, warm up your jets again, I guess.

1) You're and insane, abusive fucktard. Gotta love the missionaries and the beauty they've brought to people's lives.
2) Wait, so you were beating him before you thought he was a witch? See sentence one of paragraph one.
@ Horsefeathers
"I'll never understand the reasoning behind these tests for witches. They're a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" sort of thing. Don't cry and they'll beat you some more; do cry and you're a witch and they'll burn you at the stake or some stupid shit."
Exactly! They used to throw the suspected witch in a pond or a lake (in a time when few could swim). If she floated she was a witch, if she drowned she was not...
I hate you.
So does your grandson.
Confused?
