Quote# 62631

I hate that I can't spank my child when I need to (i.e., in public). He's only 3, and a delayed spanking at this age is simply not effective. It doesn't take much, either - one light swat and his heart is absolutely broken. I just don't dare do it in public, except at church.

Now I'll admit, I give my girls a light swat on the behind if they're doing something dangerous or that otherwise needs immediate correction, but I've never had a problem not spanking them in public. Walmart and the grocery store have corners too, and those work just fine.

Smart people pick them and carry them into the bathroom to spank them. They don't do it right there in front of everyone in the grocery store, idiot. Although I've seen so many unruly children lately that if I saw a parent pop one of them on the butt and actually DISCIPLINE them, I would probably stand up and applaud.

So does your child only act out in public? Surely there will be times when you can spank in the privacy of your own home...

Yes, breaking your child's heart is completely Christian. After all, "suffer the little children" means "make them suffer", right? Wait, it means "endure them"? WTF?

The purpose of punishment is to break your son's heart?

". It doesn't take much, either - one light swat and his heart is absolutely broken"

What a wonderful way to phrase it. Sounds like you really know how to make your child learn by making him feel complete despair with minimal effort on your part. Must have perfected the art.
Someone, please get Child Protective Services on the line.

One light swat does not abuse make.

His heart is obviously broken? WTF?

@EvoPagan: I would applaud too.

Funny, we never used violence on our children and they have turned out to be reasonably well-adjusted adults. We never even contemplated violent acts even though they were, like most children, naughty on occasions when they were younger. And to think my wife and I are both atheists.

Mind you, I can quite understand certain Christians wishing to visit suffering and violence on their offspring. How else are they going to engender in them suitable levels of mindless and unquestioning obedience to authority? How else are they going to get them to display the necessary gullibility in the face of unreasonable and irrational silliness?

Still, apparently you have a need to spank your children. I suppose love can be expressed in many ways.

Please give my regards to Grace won't you.

I hope this doesnt turn into a huge spanking vs. no spanking argument.

"one light swat and his heart is absolutely broken."

This kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

Spanking just isn't my style of parenting, but I respect the other point of view and a parent's right to discipline their children as they choose (within reason). Hell, I think spanking is better than no discipline at all.

Still, this parent seems kind of... I dunno... sadistic and vengeful and spanking to vent anger rather than discipline.

I know!!! So many times I want to hit a child and this damn politically correct society frowns on public beatings of babies. Good thing I can still spank them in church. Oh, I guess it's okay to molest them at church too, after they have done their alter duties of course. Thanks Jesus, you're the best!

Oh thats it she said church in the post, look everybody she said church! Quick, get her!

I miss the quality of posts we had just after moving the site. Seems some people are voting for anything submitted, even pure crap and reposts that were already put on the mainpage less than 24 hours before...sigh. :(

The only time I approve of spanking is in the bedroom with a consenting partner, unless it's the monkey, that's spanking I completely approve of.

@ EvoPagan - I'd be there with the standing ovation applause.

In fact, I'm the "jerk" that thanks parents when they shut their kid up with acceptable measures.

I can only assume that when she says "spank", she's not talking about one quick swat to the butt.

And "one light swat" probably means "beat the living shit out of him."

@Painful -- Oh, good. I'm not the only one.

Ahh, so you're conditioning him to hate going to church and to reject it as soon as he's old enough. Excellent!
