Quote# 62687

[Trying to prove that humans aren't animals.]

I consider the metaphysical as well. We have a soul that keeps us in the likeness of God. Animals do not.

Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either.

I've got soul,

but I'm not a soldier.

Painful

Try telling that to my leopard gecko - she has her own internet following, who have added the honorific "HRH" to her name, and the time we took her to the vet she wouldn't let anyone put the lid on her box because she was getting too much attention and boy was she playing THAT one up.

I'm not entirely sure about the soul thing, at least, if the soul gives a personality. And I have REPTILES, it is one thing to say that about man's best friend.

Oh, and insect biology fail.

This guy and the "mammals are not animals" person should compare notes.

How does it feel to be too stupid even for Y!A?

5/28/2009 10:26:27 AM

Grigadil

Please keep in mind that Charlie Manson also has a "soul". Likeness of god?

Whatever.

5/28/2009 10:27:17 AM

Osiris

Insects are animals.

5/28/2009 10:27:48 AM

Lucilius

Duh. Insects are a kind of rock. Prob'ly sez that in the Babble. They're four-legged rocks, too.

Oh, and demonstrate to me:

1. The existence of a human soul;

2. Evidence of its likeness to God;

3. The existence of your favorite God; and

4. Evidence – or at least a line of logical reasoning – that animals do not also have souls.

I'll give you a little while to work on that.

5/28/2009 10:31:05 AM

Lucilius

@Grigadil: Closer than most fundies realize, or would admit.

JohnTheAtheist

We have a soul only because YOU say so, You declare it by fiat then will tolerate no discussion of the matter. There is no evidence, NONE, that says we humans possess any sort of internal spirit, something that is seperate from our physical body, and something that other animals do not have.

Therefore, as usual, you fail.

"We have a soul that keeps us in the likeness of God."

Unsupported assertion, evidence please.

"Animals do not."

Unsupported assertion, evidence please.

"Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either."

Gross ignorance, get an education.

Insects aren't animals?

How do you fail at basic biology THAT badly? This is 5th-grade science! 5th-grade science that even religious home-school curricula aren't dumb enough to leave out! (And that's saying a lot, I was taught on one of those and didn't learn two-kingdom taxonomy was obsolete until college.)

5/28/2009 10:37:06 AM

Ken

If you can't construct sentences, don't debate on the internet.

5/28/2009 10:38:29 AM

John

Well, insects are called animals in English. What language is Steadfast speaking?

5/28/2009 10:50:52 AM

Clown

@Lucilius:
No, you got it wrong. HUMANS are minerals! And I can prove it. (insert "salt of the earth" reference here)
And insects are four legged fungii species. (insert another bible refference here)

5/28/2009 10:52:16 AM

David B.

Uh, steadfast? Stick insects aren't literally made out of sticks, dude, it's just a name?

5/28/2009 11:05:38 AM

Mister Spak

" We have a soul that keeps us in the likeness of God."

Show me this soul.

"Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either."

So are they vegetables or minerals?

5/28/2009 11:15:03 AM

Old Viking

I sold my soul. It's been good times ever since.

5/28/2009 11:18:21 AM

Horsefeathers

"I consider the metaphysical as well."

How about we stick to real science?

"We have a soul that keeps us in the likeness of God. Animals do not."

Wonderful. Now show evidence that this is the case and that it actually distinguishes us in some manner that would require us to be classified differently.

"Insects have eyes and legs, bodily fluids, and a will to live. Yet they are not animals either."

No? Then what are they? Wait, don't tell me, they're not "animals" they're "insects", right?

Fucking moron.

5/28/2009 11:20:24 AM

Dio Fa

Is that why animals are more moral than the overwhelming majority of humans? They aren't God-like.

5/28/2009 11:21:32 AM

5/28/2009 11:24:24 AM

Moondog

Yeah, sure. Insects are not animals because everyone knows that animals are cute and cuddly and warm and fuzzy, but insects are icky and creepy.

5/28/2009 11:24:57 AM

Mudak

Define the term "soul" and then we can see whether or not we're the only animal that happens to have one.
