Quote# 62770

You mean "the growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning." that has brought us to the brink of global collapse? Or, "the growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning" that brought the atomic bomb, and the MASS EXTERMINATIONS of the 20th Century? Or is it, "the growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning" that brought about the SLAUGHTER of OVER FIFTY MILLION INNOCENT BEINGS IN THE WOMB?

Tell you what, you sick and diseased God-less freak. I'll take the GOOD OLD DAYS, ANYTIME. >You< immoral and diseased freaks are responsible for MORE DEATH than ALL other causes COMBINED. You freaks are a VIRUS.

"The sky is falling ... the sky is falling! We're on the brink of global collapse! We've got atomic bombs hanging over our heads! Oh, yeah, and BTW, I'm against legalized abortion".

Oh for crissake, GS, grow a pair, will you.

The Plague wiped out a third of the population of Europe. Today we cure it with $5 worth of streptomycin. Good old days, indeed. We invented antibiotics 70 years ago - actually we stole them from the fungi, who've been working on them for a half-billion years - and already bacteria are evolving ways around them. How much longer do you think we can stay ahead of them? Another 50 years? These are the "good old days".

Oh, for the good ol' days, when the Church was in charge of who got slaughtered, whether by the sword, famine or diseases running rampant due to the oppression of science.

I think you missed the fourth "The growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning"...
You know.... The one that actualy happened.

You realize the only reason you can even post your diatribe online is because SCIENCE created that nifty contraption called a computer? And, the internet is also the result of science.

The Internet is an ironic place to find someone who hates technology so much...

"Tell you what, you sick and diseased God-less freak. I'll take the GOOD OLD DAYS, ANYTIME."

The good old days? Oh, you mean back when you were lucky if you lived to 40? When childbirth was likely to kill you? When high-tech was bronze smelting? When disease was caused by "demons" and the cure was having a priest sprinkle bird blood on you. Yeah, those were the days all right.

"You< immoral and diseased freaks are responsible for MORE DEATH than ALL other causes COMBINED."

I see you're not counting your supposed god's handiwork.

"You freaks are a VIRUS."

Speaking of viruses, you'd have likely died from one by now if you were living back in your "good old days". You should be thankful that you were inoculated as a child -- something that could never have happened in your little fantasy of days gone by.

"You mean "the growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning." that has brought us to the brink of global collapse?"

You're confusing knowledge, and those that discover new information, with how that knowledge is exploited by others; you're condemning a tool for how it's used. That's like cursing the hammer a vandal used to smash your window. Not very rational, when you think about it.

"Or, "the growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning" that brought the atomic bomb, and the MASS EXTERMINATIONS of the 20th Century?"

See above.

"Or is it, "the growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning" that brought about the SLAUGHTER of OVER FIFTY MILLION INNOCENT BEINGS IN THE WOMB?"

And again.

Your world must be a very stark place, full of black and white, no room for nuance or the fine detail of human fallibility. Very sad.

"Tell you what, you sick and diseased God-less freak. I'll take the GOOD OLD DAYS, ANYTIME. >You< immoral and diseased freaks are responsible for MORE DEATH than ALL other causes COMBINED."

Science and civilisation have saved more lives than you can possibly imagine. Take soap and penicillin for starters, how many millions of lives saved by those two alone? Plus all those spared, for instance, the misery of food poisoning or having a limb amputated. You're really lucky to be alive now, you're life expectancy is higher than it has ever been in the entire history of our species.

"You freaks are a VIRUS."

Without science and progress, you wouldn't have the faintest idea what a virus *is*.

David B.

Just one hundred years ago the population was 1.6 billion, the average birthrate was 30 per 1000 people, and infant mortality was 300 per 1000 world-wide.

I.e. 1,600,000,000 * 30/1000 * 300/1000 = 14,400,000 child deaths/year.

Now the population is 6.7 billion, the average birthrate is 20 per 1000, and infant mortality is 40 per 1000.

I.e. 6,700,000,000 * 20/1000 * 40/1000 = 5,360,000 child deaths/year.

Nine million less children die each year now than in the "good old days", and that's despite 86 million more children being born now than then.

Under GSCensoreds "good old days" (GOD?) scheme, there would be over 40 million child deaths each year, an increase of nearly 35 million every year. In 18 months, GSC's scheme would overtake abortion in the "slaughter" stakes.

Science saves lives. GSCensored and his ilk are the freaks, they yearn for the return to mass death and suffering so long as it also means being ignorant of a few facts they haven't the brains to understand or the guts to swallow.

Fortunately his rank cowardice and stupidity are matched only by his impotence, otherwise he would condemn to death in twenty years more children than have been killed by every war famine and epidemic in the last century, even if we were to count abortions among that number.

You don't deserve the life you almost certainly owe to a century of scientific progress, GSC, and what is more likely than anything to send us into global collapse is the likes of you blocking the route back from the edge because their "god" wouldn't like it.

I call shenanigans on the "FIFTY MILLION blahblahblah".

You insist on shackling women to the home by the reproductive tract, you insist on ignorance of basic biology, you have a long history of killing people that disagree with your dogma, and WE'RE the "sick and diseased" ones?!

You mean "the growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning." that has brought us to the moon and back? Or, "the growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning" that brought modern medicine, and the MASS EXTERMINATIONS of deadly viruses? Or is it, "the growth, learning and development of civilizations.... scholarship, science, education and learning" that brought about new reproductive rights for women?

GSCensored, I'd offer you some sedatives, there, dude, but since you're so against everything we've learned, I doubt it'll do you any good...

Anytime? How about now, it is good a time as any. Walk away from modern civilization, nobody is stopping you.

Yes, those wonderful olden days when we only lived to be about forty.

And incidentally, the 20th century was relatively benign. Most of the killing that took place was a result of ethnic tensions reaching the breaking point after Europe cut its former colonies loose, not a result of technological inventions that made killing easier.

I take medication for depression and lupus. I just finished getting my required innoculations for college which include hepatitis B, measles, and meningitis. My father is still alive thanks to his quintuple heart bypass, and my mother is going strong 10 years after her chemotherapy for lymphoma.

I LOVE living in the 21st century.
