We cannot yet say for sure how life originated but we can make some pretty good scientific conjectures. None of which necessarily involve intelligent agents of any kind.
And anyway, ToE doesn't try to explain how life originated, only what happened after it appeared.

@ everyone:
Evolutionary theory is really a broad set of hypotheses that explain biological diversity in terms of exclusively natural phenomena. I don't see that an explanation for the origin of life really falls outside of these boundaries.
Understandably, support for origins hypotheses tend to be weak. It did happen ~3.8 bya and it was very tiny. Maybe I am fundamentalist, but I think weak support for a natural explanation is better than an unsupportable supernatural explanation.
