I was thinking, and that can be dangerous in and of itself, but, a greenhouse is full of plants. Plants use the CO2 we put in the air and let off oxygen. So then with a room full of plants wouldnt you expect there to be more O2 in the room? If there is more O2 in the room, would that mean that greenhouse gases are what we need to live? I obviously havent done the research as yet, but it is certainly a curious thought.

"I obviously havent done the research as yet"
Very obviously.
Problem is, vast amounts of forest are being cut down every day. And that's only one flaw in your armchair science.
GREENHOUSE GASES DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!!!!!!
Also, "I was thinking, and that can be dangerous in and of itself"
At least you're being honest and admitting you're a pathetic dittohead.
Yes, thinking can be dangerous. Why one day a person starts thinking and the next thing you know there's indoor plumbing, life-saving medicines, peanut butter, electricity, the telephone, ice cream, cars and the Internet. It's downright scary, I tells ya!
"I was thinking, and that can be dangerous in and of itself"
Well, I have nothing to add, that pretty much sums up the attitude at Rapture Ready right there.
Oh BTW, it's not the gases that make a greenhouse a greenhouse, but rather the glass structure around it. You remove the glass structure from a green house, it's no longer going to have a greenhouse effect.
You don't even know what a "greenhouse gas" is, do you?
You probably think that someone who's "pushing up the daisies" is actually busy gardening.
hmmmmm, I kinda suspect a stealth troll at work here - maybe not, but if so, this is fucking brilliant. I wonder how many RR idiots they'll fool into saying "hey, you might have a point.."
From the same thread:
"It is easy saying someone else should die for what you believe...but you really know when someone is convinced of something when they themselves are willing to die for it. So I say until they are ready to put up they should shut up."
So why aren't YOU in Iraq instead of living comfortably in the States?
@tracer
I say this is FUNDAMENTALISM IN A NUTSHELL AWARD for the whole year 2009.
Stop searching, FSTDT'ers, the contest is over! We have a winner! (Or is it wiener? Whiner? I don't remember...)
I was thinking, and that can be dangerous in and of itself...
Yes, God hates people who think for themselves. He wants to keep the masses stupid. As for the rest of your greenhouse stuff, it's the runaway melting of arctic ice that's the problem.
DO YOU DAMNED RESEARCH.
People use greenhouses to keep a warm environment for their crops when the local climate is too cool. (The glass keeps the heat in.)
On the global scale, CO2 and methane in the upper atmosphere act like layers of glass, keeping heat energy from dissipating.
There. That's "the greenhouse effect".
CO2 is poisonous to animals, including us, but are used by plants. The problem is we are putting out lots of CO2 and then cutting down lots of trees, so greenhouse gases are rising and we are basically poisoning our own air.
"I was thinking, and that can be dangerous in and of itself, "
Out of the mouths of fundies.
I understand the reasoning, and he admits that he doesn't know if what he's saying is correct, so this is not fundie at all in my opinion. It's wrong, and asking advice from Rapture Ready is unwise at best, but it's not fundie.
Except for that 'thinking is dangerous' bit. That's fundie, but not enough for me not to rate it a 'meh'.
I was thinking, and that can be dangerous in and of itself,
Oh yes, God forbid you actually use your own damn brain every know and then...
I obviously havent done the research as yet
...Or do a google search for something before opening your mouth.
Fanatic-Templar:
But it's funny, and unusual. +1
There've been way too many 'fundie-talking-point' quotes that make me feel like I've heard it all before lately...
Yes, everyone and their dog knows that plants use CO2 and produce oxygen. CO2 is an important part of the ecosystem, but when you're chopping down acres and acres of natural forest and pumping an extraordinary amount of CO2 (not to mention the significantly more toxic gases), the balance is interrupted, which leads to an excess of CO2 in the atmosphere that traps heat in, causing the ocean temperatures to rise, the ice caps to melt and dangerous weather phenomena.
...this just officially shattered my expectations of how pathetically ignorant and, well, stupid these people are. I mean, really? it's just dawning on me that the IQ of someone like this could literally be below 60. is that possible. I know a 5 year old smarter than this guy....

There are three sorts of people at RR, the profoundly stupid, those professional 'Christians' ('Preachers', 'Pastors' and the like) immoral enough to to try to exploit the retarded for their tax-free 10%, and trolls.
You even fail worse than a 9th grade Australian public school student. I know because we got taught greenhouse effect in 9th grade :).
Of course, its unfair comparing yourself to me now, I mean, I'm doing a science degree.
LOL! You REALLY believe "greenhouse gases" are gases found inside a greenhouse!?
Later in thread:
"This is what I don't understand...if the are so concerned about overpopulation destroying the planet...then why don't all the tree huggers arrange for themselves to be put to death. That would obviously put a dent in the world population. It is easy saying someone else should die for what you believe...but you really know when someone is convinced of something when they themselves are willing to die for it. So I say until they are ready to put up they should shut up."
I don't know about you guys, but I'm not asking anyone to die to help overpopulation, I'm asking people to be responsible about reproduction. Not the same thing at all.
I was thinking, and that can be dangerous in and of itself
You should've ended the post there. Then you should stop doing what's dangerous for you: don't think, because that way you wouldn't be able to come onto RR and post half-considered, random comments like this one.
Yes, you obviously haven't done the research. A greenhouse traps heat. Greenhouse gases are called that because, like a greenhouse, they trap heat.
And from further down the thread.
"This is what I don't understand...if the are so concerned about overpopulation destroying the planet...then why don't all the tree huggers arrange for themselves to be put to death. You can just feeeeel that chrisitian love.
I see where you're going with this.
Disregarding your confusion about terminology, you seem to be heading in the direction of "If we need these gasses to live, then surely more is better?"
Consider an analogy with water, which similarly is needed for life. More is not necessarily better, as any drowning man can tell you.
Please- do the research.
This is a "WTF", hands-down, because I can't comprehend what in the hell BlessedinHim is saying. I think there may be some "science" involved, but I use that term loosely. There may be some math involved as well. Either way I'm confused and very frightened.
Holly shit, the whole thread is downright scary. Are these people for real? I mean, we all asked ourselves that question, but... Five year old, homeschooled, retarded or troll? Tough choice.

See all the red in this picture? That's all dead trees because the pine beetle has wiped out the pine tree forests that were planted to replace the mixed forests that were originally there. I predict in the next 5 years we are going to have a forest fire, the likes that have never been seen. The reason the pine beetle has exploded in the province is because of the government allowing nothing but pine trees to be planted because they are the most economically viable. Also that we no longer get the -40 and below winters that kill the beetle.
Now lets add how much forestry that is going on around the rest of the world, along with the pollution that's being puked out on a daily basis. I personally have little hope in saving our society. No matter how many CFC's I put in my house, or how many miles I cycle, I'm not going to offset the number of hummers on the roads, or the amount of pollution now being puked out by Chinese factories.
Well, it was a good run while it lasted. Maybe if we had continued with initiatives that were started in the 70's. But now the methane being released by the melting ice caps is unstoppable.
Oh, and CO2 is not the only Greenhouse gas. Know any plants that breath:
methane
nitrous oxide
ozone
CFC's?
CREATION SCIENCE FTW!
"I obviously havent done the research as yet"
this could be the creation science slogan
seriously, at least pick up a dictionary or something.
"I was thinking, and that can be dangerous in and of itself"
This explains a lot about Rapture Ready.
I'll give him credit, trees are a very important sink for carbon. Problem with it is we are deforesting at an astonishing rate, and pumping excess carbon into the atmosphere that would otherwise be locked underground. I hope that he (or she) will do research.
Yea, because everyone knows, the greenhouse gasses everyone's so worried about, are actually just extra oxygen...
Of course if this person only knew that "greenhouse gasses" are so called, not because they are produced in greenhouses, but because they cause a similar effect to a greenhouse in the upper atmosphere (trapping heat). Something tells me "BlessedinHim" isn't ever going to get around to doing that research.
Hey, at least he says he havent looked into it yet. Considering the source, I find it highly unlikely that he will be able to understand even if he does research it, but its at least better than lots of the other quotes on here by people who say "I`ve researched x a lot and <insert ignorant statement>" where they are blatantly lying.
Thank fuck that NASA's flight engineers weren't fundies on that fateful day, after James Lovell spoke those words:
'Houston, we've had a problem.'
Otherwise he, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise would've been slowly poisoned to death in the Apollo 13 mission, without the quick thinking - and secular education-based ingenuity - of said engineers in making a makeshift air scrubber; indeed, literally putting a square peg in a round hole, to prevent CO2 asphyxiation of said astronauts.
So, BlessedinHim, I guess biology and biochemistry wasn't on the 'hoemskuling' curriculum, eh?
And you wonder why fundieism such as yours FAILS every single time? Just look at Michael Behe, re. Kitzmiller vs. Dover. And he's a Professor of Biochemistry, no less.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
