Atheists come demanding evidence. But they discount anything that disproves their pet theories, no matter how well founded that evidence is.
Simply because I am a Christian, anything I have to say will never be good enough for an atheist. (don't believe me, visit an atheist site, the sheer hatred/bigotry towards Christians is amazing. I always thought atheists to be unemotional in their unbelief, but they hate people of faith!)

An honest atheist is an agnostic because he must admit he doesn't have enough evidence to know if God is there or not. (an interesting aside, there are no militant agnostic organizations out to stamp out Christianity, only the radical atheists are doing that. Agnostics just don't care.)

What evidence is that? God came down and appeared on the Six O'Clock News? The virgin Mary appeared on a piece of toast? Your brother-in-law's barber's dentist prayed and won $70 on the lottery? The Bible predicts that some day there'll be an earthquake somewhere?

We don't have enough evidence to know if the sun will rise tomorrow or your bed won't disappear while you're sleeping on it, but it's a pretty good bet.

Fine. Cite something that is valid scientific evidence. If you don't know what constitutes valid scientific evidence I suggest you shut the fuck up now before you embarrass yourself further.

I don't hate you. I'm tired of people being fucking ignorant and refusing to rectify the problem. Ignorance in general I have no problem with since we're all ignorant about quite a lot of things. The problem stems from someone, such as myself, telling people, such as yourself, over and over that you're fucking wrong and that reality doesn't correspond to your little fantasy only to have you turn around and ask the same fucking thing yet again or present the same fucking argument over and over.

Why not be both? I am. I do not know for certain that no god exists--just as you do not know that one does--but I do not believe one does based on the evidence that I've seen.

It's quite possible a god does exist. It may even be your god. I doubt it though.

Perhaps because they're not diametrically opposed to your way of thinking and, thus, haven't been the target of your vitriol for thousands of years. Atheists have been and are now both fed up and free to say something about it without being burned alive for the trouble.

I'm an agnostic atheist,I don't claim to be right about a god or a pantheon of gods not existing.This is part of the reason why I study science.I do the research,so I can know once and for all if a god(s)exist,so far the facts point to no and I'm perfectly okay with that.
I don't hate anyone, no matter how much they bug me.There's better ways to spend your time,then hating people.What I do hate is when people jump to conclusions about me and my beliefs(or lack of)especially when they have no understanding or don't even know them.
Christian's as well as every other religion have yet to present any solid evidence supporting their belief that a diety exists.Until the day comes when they do, I will stick with sciences explanation of the universe and everything in it and when a christian starts in on me I will ask for proof of their gods existance even though it will be the same arguement that I've heard millions of times before and I will continue to point out the inaccuracies of their argument. And when they call me an "evilutionist,darwinist,evolutionist,arrogant,militant atheist"and prattle on about how they'll "pray" for me I'll grit my teeth and bear it like I always have.

You want an unemotional atheist, you'll have to go talk to a robot programmed not to believe in gods. We're people too, and we get tired of being picked at with the same "evidence" and arguments all the time! There's a reason we don't accept them. . . it's because we've already heard them all hundreds of times, we've investigated and analyzed them, and they're no more true this time than the last hundred.

Again, we're people, and we get tired of being put down, stereotyped, and told we're wrong. You know who usually does this? "People of faith".

An honest atheist is what s/he feels the evidence points to. That means I'm an agnostic atheist because I believe the evidence suggests no gods, but it's not possible to prove either way. Other atheists believe that is possible. That's not dishonest, even if I personally disagree. Would it be dishonest for a Christian to be agnostic?

As an atheist/agnostic all I demand is that I be left in peace, and that if you expect me to respect your beliefs, then I expect you to show me the same courtesy.

As for hatred, I only hate those who harass or berate people for not sharing their beliefs, or who believe violence is justified in the name of their God. Even then hate is a strong word. Concern and pity or more like it. Most of my family continue to be proud practicing Catholics, and I love them to the ends of the earth. Many of my friends are Christians, Jews, Muslims and they are all good people through and through. I wouldn't be friends with them if they weren't.

I could care less about proving or disproving the existence of God. Even if there was incontrovertible evidence (see I can use big words to make myself sound smarter too :p) it wouldn't change the way I lived my life, because if he is who I was originally taught he was, then he would want us to go out and live our lives the way they were meant to be lived, and not spend every waking moment of it kissing his ass.

Stop lumping Atheists into one catagory. Heck I know loads of Christians who are not like you. I don't just see a Fundie and then base my knowledge all other Christians on them. I don't want to see the end of Christianity because of people like you. I don't hate Christians.

Call me a weak atheist if you will. God is not proven therefore I remain an Atheist. That's only a simple version of what I actually think. I do have some ideas and philosophy existance (through years of freethinking). Of course you would discredit it as sinful and insulting God. Tell me "Mr Mann", what if proof turned up that your deity didn't exist (in that form) but another one did? What if it was the god of Islam or Zeus*?

*I think they are all the same made up being evolved by humans over time anyway and it goes fairly deep and complicated the further you go back.

Please read this and understand. Look at yourself. Then you will realise where we are coming from.

I don't think I really hate anybody. I seriously don't like people who hurt children, who make them truly believe in fairy tales (even the fairy tale of Santa Claus, yes) or myths*. Children are gullible in nature, as they are supposed to learn everything; how the world works, how to communicate in it, how to behave to make others around them feel comfortable in their presence (the mark of a real gentleman or lady). Tricking children into believing in tooth fairies or angels or pixies or unicorns or gods is mental child abuse in my opinion.

What were we talking about? Oh yeah; Christian fundies coercing others to believe there is a god, without wanting to present evidence for said god. They are somewhat tiresome to be around. I don't hate them, but I'd rather avoid their company.
Christians who are content with believing in their God, and who are absolutely fine with others believing in other gods, or no god at all, they are the True Christians, in my opinon.

If there are any militant atheistic organizations out to stamp out Christianity, they are certainly doing a shoddy job of it. The overwhelming majority of the population in the US are Christians, in different degrees of devotion. According to wikipedia.se Christianity is the largest religion in the world, 2.1 billions, or 33% of all people, are Christians (figures from 2007).

* I am not against reading stories or telling myths to children, but they should be informed that these ARE myths and stories. No belief system should be presented as the absolute truth.

Strictly speaking, that's true. Then again, I've never seen any evidence that fairies don't exist (nor that they DO exist), but I'm in very little if any doubt that they don't. Absence of (convincing)evidence doesn't prove the non-existence of the entity in question, but it casts a lot of doubt on it.

Now, a wholly rational person may still infer that it does exist on the basis of a cautious guess, fair enough. One could equally rationally reject it, on the grounds that anything of such cosmic significance would leave unambiguous evidence of some description. It's all open to question, and in that respect, every honest person is an "agnostic".

But sadly that's the kind of introspection is totally lacking from fundamentalists of every creed and colour.

We just want this 'God' of yours to actually SHOW himself. That's all we ask. That's all the evidence we require to acknowledge the existence of such a being. And words in a mere book (the Bible) doth not constitute evidence.

But you know as well as we do that'll never happen. For two reasons:

1- Proof denies 'Faith'. And without 'Faith' , there can be no belief. Because if God showed himself, that would destroy religion as we know it (just as the last thing the residents of Loch Ness want is a team of expert oceanographers/naturalists doing a comprehensive survey of the Loch. Because if 'Nessie' was proved to exist, the place would basically become over commercialised as 'Nessieland', and destroy the character of the place. And if it was proven that 'Nessie' didn't exist, there'd be the tourist trade eliminated. Thus the need for their faith in a 'legend').

2- God doesn't exist. And remember: the burden of proof is on YOU & your ilk, Mann me boy. You say a 'God' exists. We say 'Prove it'.

But then, that's how superstitions - specifically an insane 'Faith' in a nebulous, unseen 'God' - can be utterly destroyed, by just two words:

PROVE IT.

And now you know why we're Atheists. Via just two words. Now how honest can you get? You know what the best weapons are against 'Faith', Mr. Mann? Evidence. And FACTS. Thus we Atheists WIN. Every time.

Percentage-wise, there are far more radical Christians in the Christian community than there are radical atheists in the atheistic community. Even then, 'radical' is a bit of a stretch. So far, the only actions I've seen an atheist take against the theists because they're an atheist and the others are theists are purely legal or political--they do things like trying to get rid of laws that go against the First Amendment and take religious-specific ideals out of schools and such. I've never heard of an atheist sending a theist a death threat just because of religion, let alone actually act out violently. I can think of numerous cases where there was violence by one or more theists (in the US, they're generally Christian) against one or more atheists just about religion.
