Fundies and their bizzare arguments. I will never understand it.
How does hating something prove it exists? If I say I really, really hate unicorns does that make them real?
6/16/2009 2:20:50 PM
Are they still upset about Pullman's books? Sheesh, it's FICTION.

Syndrome of a Downs
If there was a significant portion of the population that believed Santa Claus was really real and were very vocal about their beliefs, I hope there would be just as strong opponents of such madness.
6/16/2009 2:24:54 PM
@WMD Kitty: Yeah, but the essential problem with fundies is that they can't tell truth from fiction. If they could, they wouldn't be Biblical literalists.
6/16/2009 2:31:26 PM
So God is really a Tulpa created by lots of atheists hating it? What will happen when the atheists outnumber the theists? Will the Tulpa become evil or simply have really bad existentialist angst? Has that happened already? Does this God-Tulpa think it exists?

6/16/2009 2:34:20 PM
Are you saying Santa doesn't exist? Why do you think that? Do you hate him because he never gave you the present you wanted?
6/16/2009 2:34:23 PM
That's Mr. Pullman to you.
And he doesn't hate Christ. He hates organised religion. And he's right to do so.
6/16/2009 2:34:59 PM
Now, I have a problem with Pullman's books because *I* don't want to read about children being having their genitals cut off and the other creepy things in his Compass series. But I didn't see anything, honestly, offensive to the church as it was a work of FICTION.
6/16/2009 2:36:31 PM
What David B. said
Around the holidays fstdt is full of quotes from fundie sites that hate the whole concept of Santa Claus, think it's a replacement for Jesus, and wants to see it outlawed.
Their faith is actually just that fragile
6/16/2009 2:52:42 PM
I don't know any atheists who hate God. We just hate fundies. Stop strawmanning.
6/16/2009 3:07:02 PM
You know, it is indeed fully possible to hate fictional characters.
6/16/2009 3:11:52 PM
>Now, I have a problem with Pullman's books because *I* don't want to read about children being having their genitals cut off and the other creepy things in his Compass series.
@Painful- What? I don't remember that at all.
6/16/2009 3:13:27 PM
We don't hate God.
We hate YOU.
6/16/2009 3:19:59 PM
"Very odd for someone who believes God is non-existant, to hate Him so much."
You have completely misunderstood the atheist position.
Now get this, and get this good:
We don't hate God. We hate you.
EDIT: Dammit, beaten to it by one post!

Ok, I think I've got a handle on how fundie logic works. Let me give this a shot:
The fact that Christians love God so much just shows that they really know he doesn't exist, because they want so much to believe he does.
This proves that God doesn't really exist, and they know it in their hearts, otherwise, they wouldn't love him so much.
6/16/2009 3:46:58 PM
Nobody is trying to teach our kids about flying reindeer in science class, claiming that Santa Claus thinks abortion should be illegal or offering passages from "The Night Before Christmas" to prove homosexuals are an abomination.
"I love your Christ. It's just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ." (Ghandi)
6/16/2009 3:53:52 PM
Hating something and not believing in something are two diffferent things.
6/16/2009 4:07:21 PM
Defense of religion just doesn't get more feeble than this.
6/16/2009 4:09:08 PM
I'm an atheist. I don't hate god. Hating imaginary things is very alike to a mental disease. No... I prefer hating the real people that believe a faerie enables them to judge the life of everyone on this planet.
Well... Hate is a big word. Let's say I just despise you.
6/16/2009 4:09:59 PM
Phillip Pullman proves "that God exists" in the same way beer proves that God exists.
6/16/2009 4:32:01 PM
I hate Santa. Now Santa exists and I'm getting presents this year.
6/16/2009 4:34:30 PM
clearly Pullman knows God exists, and so therefore hates Him all the more....
Or, he could know God [i]doesn't[i] exist, and just hates what you've done with your religion.
This new militant atheist crowd ironically proves God’s existence
Maybe by twisted fundie logic, but not by any real logic.
@Ophie: Actually, beer would be a good argument for a benevolent creator, in my opinion.
