Quote# 63246

"Exactly, what MAKES fascism right-wing?"
Democrat propaganda.

Back when they were honest, they openly declared their love for Hitler. They called themselves "Progressives" then.
When Hitler's name became a dirty word, theirs did, too.
To rehabilitate their image, they took the name "liberal" since at the time that's what we called the Founders.
They never made even trivial changes to their political agenda and STILL hold exactly the same platform they had in their "we're proud to love Hitler" days.
Calling Hitler "right wing" was to better distance their image from him. It was only possible because he fought Stalin. Since Stalin was acknowledged as leftist, they "reasoned" Hitler must be right, ignoring the fact they fought over TURF, not the ideology they SHARED

Short version: Nazi = Democrat. There is literally NO difference.

Fascism can be both left- and right-wing. But it certainly is either of those two, you can almost say they meet (if you see it as a circle and not a linear scale). Mainstream fascism is not possible, you have to be extremist to want to suppress other peoples thoughts and beliefs.

Hitler was a dirty word right after WWII.
According to wikipedia:
"Among the key elements of Nazism were anti-parliamentarism, Pan-Germanism, racism, collectivism, eugenics, antisemitism, anti-communism, totalitarianism and opposition to economic liberalism and political liberalism."
Doesn't sound that liberal to me...

"Back when they were honest, they openly declared their love for Hitler. They called themselves "Progressives" then."

I'm sorry are you talking about the SPD (social democratic party) or the Centre Party of pre-Nazi Germany? They were the ones called "progressives". And they were Hitler's main opposition next to the KPD (German Communist Party).

I assure you "National Socialism" was merely a name and did not reflect Hitler's policy in any way. So much so that he killed members of his party that suggested they use more socialistic ideas in the Night of the Long Knives such as Ernst Rohm.

Now shut up.

It's amazing Republicans have the gall to call Nazis "liberals" when Hitler put liberals in fucking concentration camps for their political beliefs!

You have absolutely no idea what Hitler believed or stood for, do you?

I'll start you off here. Wanna know where the Pink Triangle came from? Once I tell you, you'll see a big, smoldering hole in your "LITERALLY NO DIFFERENCE!"

Yeah, who was that President who worked so hard and spent so much US money (and lives) to bring the Nazis down? Remind me again of his name, and what party he belonged to?

@Swedish Pagan - I think you mean that totalitarianism or authoritarian governments can be both left and right wing. Fascism is expressly a far right ideology.

Trying to put Hitler on the right/left scale just doesn't work. The reason? He was a nutcase.

He has a lot of hallmarks of being a fascist, and yet he led a socialistic regime. The guy was out of his mind and lefties saying hitler was right wing and righties saying hitler was left wing are BOTH stupid.

I especially loll'd at the "nazi=democrat" thing and there being no difference. Cuz we all know democrats are about killing the jews, right?

Go looks up Mussolini's writings. It is very right-wing.

Funny, nobody advocates the killing of six million people for the mere fact of EXISTING, but, well, it's nice to have another point of view.

Except, even when they were on friendly terms with one another, Hitler expressed his disgust for the communism of Russia. Also: LOL "TURF".

I don't do history. I could never sit still long enough to learn very much of it. I don't do politics. They make me lose faith in humanity. Even I know you're full of BS.

Facist doctrinal statements;
"Our state is ordained by God to wage war upon the satanic races".

"God commanded me to invade Poland".

"God commanded me to invade Iraq".

You're absolutely right, except for the facts.

Hitler was anti-evolution, anti-abortion, and, of course, racist as hell.

Does that sound like many Democrats you know?

drawing one connection proves nothing. Hitler was actually kind of popular, your right about that, but it wasn't really anything the fuck to do with democrats then or now. the whole US government was taking similar positions against Stalin, Hitler was useful.
the whole WW2 thing messed up things a bit. suddenly they had to call the nazis evil and got chummy with the Soviets. that lasted about 5 years.

I'm surprised he has as many facts straight as he does. the demonification of the Nazis was more of a temporary PR stunt then any real concern about them. many people praised the Nazis for their economic success. the communists were the ones who we all thought were a threat. then WW2, suddenly Hitler was every ones enemy no matter what they thought of him. the Soviets were an ally of opportunity. after WW2 we went right back to anti communism.

now where this whole thing falls apart is where it has anything to do with the liberals.

also, he really looses points for talking about them like their the same 5 people that ran the party 70 years ago.

Hitler was progressive and liberal on things like worker's rights (unless they were jewish workers in Schindler's plants... then they were slaves).

But he was not so liberal on the humans rights.

Hitler had a lot of good politics... but it was kinda drowned out by the evil.
