Quote# 63627

Well, I believe that the bible is the infallible word of God. To try and say that Genesis 1 is false is to say that God lied. To say that God lied is to say say he is not perfect. To say God is not perfect is to say that he is not God. To say that God is not God is to say he doesn't exist. To say this, is to say that Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all just made up out of no where.

Quite a detour, but you got the first step.

Well, snakes don´t speak, we don´t deprive ourselves of pork or lobster. By your logic, God is lying again.

Exactly. Except for that "out of no where", most of it is copied off older religions and belief systems.

As Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 contradicts each other, both can't be absolutely correct. Either the goat herders did something wrong when they did the shorthand or God was confused. Or there might have been mistakes done in some of the many translations to and fro.

He's the one that the bible says told Adam & Eve that if they ate from the Tree of Knowledge, they would die. And they did... some 900 years later.

You are starting to get the hang of it. Keep working at that line of thought.

Yes, and? I see no problem with this scenario.

Btw, as Genesis 2 contradicts Genesis 1, it seems God himself is saying God does not exist. Or something like that...

Never actually read Genesis, have you?

So if the bible is not 100% true, then your god is a liar and therefore doesn’t exist (somehow).

But the bible itself says that god is a liar. So if the bible is 100% true this means your god does not exist.

Are you sure you thought that through?

"To try and say that Genesis 1 is false is to say that God lied."

With the minor assumptions that God indeed wrote Gen. 1 and exists to write anything in the first place.

"To say that God lied is to say say he is not perfect."

With the assumption that lying is always bad.

"To say God is not perfect is to say that he is not God."

If you assume that God has to be perfect.

"To say that God is not God is to say he doesn't exist."

Sounds a bit like word salad, but if you interpret it as reductio ad absurdum i.e. if a is not a then a doesn't exist, it follows from the law of non-contradiction.

"To say this, is to say that Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all just made up out of no where."

Not necessarily out of nowhere, but as a progressive work by many people over millennia.
