Quote# 63676

[In response to someone stating that there are no atheist organizations pushing their agendas on anyone]

What about our war mongers and torture supporters?

They can't honestly be christians, christians love peace and wouldn't hurt a fly.

Gotta be a Poe, this should be dripping with sarcasm.

6/30/2009 2:40:07 PM

Obvious POE is obvious

Okay so I went and read some of her other replies and I think she's batshit insane.

6/30/2009 2:43:33 PM

So Poe it hurts.

6/30/2009 2:51:48 PM

6/30/2009 3:02:04 PM

That's the thing about Poe's Law, though ... you can't tell if he's being serious or not!

6/30/2009 3:07:32 PM

I hope this is a poe.

Sometimes I am bad at the art of sarcasam.

6/30/2009 3:07:49 PM

Is that bag pipes I can hear playing?

6/30/2009 3:08:46 PM

The Skeptic Wept

I don't know about POE - I read her other replies and I think she's just bat shit crazy.

6/30/2009 3:14:43 PM

Zeus Almighty

Last time I checked Bush was a Christian.
Cheney, obviously, worships and/or is Satan.

6/30/2009 3:22:50 PM

6/30/2009 3:24:48 PM

G. Fieendish

So the former U.S president, George W Bush, was not a Christian, when he described Operation Enduring Freedom a "Crusade"...?

6/30/2009 3:25:36 PM

I sure hope Poe. If not...

Bwaaaahahahahaahahahaaa!!!! XD

6/30/2009 3:27:44 PM

Poe. You can't tell me she's not aware that it's been god-fearing Christians who advocate waterboarding.

6/30/2009 3:38:42 PM

Those people are Christians. Yes, strange I know.

6/30/2009 3:45:22 PM

You can never know if they're a Poe. I've spoken to actual Christians who've said stuff like this.

6/30/2009 3:47:58 PM

What about our war mongers and torture supporters?"

Bush and Cheney are atheists?

"They can't honestly be christians, christians love peace and wouldn't hurt a fly."

Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Salem Witch Trials, so on and so forth.

Oh, I forgot. They're not True Christians™

6/30/2009 3:50:55 PM

Old Vikings

Nope, supporters of war and torture are Christians. Always have been.

6/30/2009 3:59:45 PM

Dr. Novakaine

I "hate" to break it to you, Lauren, but those "war mongers" and "torture supporters" are composed almost entirely of Christian right-wingers. Maybe do a little background checking before you spout off ignorance, hm?

6/30/2009 4:06:50 PM

What about our war mongers and torture supporters?

They can't honestly be christians, christians love peace and wouldn't hurt a fly.

I hate to break it to you. Well, that's not true, I'm glad to point this out to you. Every single one of the war mongers and torturers claims to be a Christian.

6/30/2009 4:09:25 PM

...meanwhile in bizzaro world...

6/30/2009 4:19:38 PM

Madame, have you been living under a rock for the last 1000 years?

6/30/2009 4:20:09 PM

The victims of the Inquisition would like to have a word with you...

6/30/2009 4:25:46 PM

Dio Fa

Poorly applied sarcasm.

6/30/2009 4:50:43 PM

Not a Poe, I don't think. It might be sarcasm, but it is also possible that she was raised in a church that actually taught that whole peace & love thing that Jesus was such a big supporter of. It definitely skates on the edge of the No True Scotsman fallacy, but on the other hand, the behaviour of the warmongers, torturers, crusaders, etc, really doesn't seem to have a lot to do with the message that the guy they claim to follow preached.

So I get where she may be coming from. On the other hand, it's Sister Lauren...she is a little off the wall. (Alternet articles can be interesting...Alternet comments are oh, so much better!)

Allegory for Jesus

Oh, how adorable! She's trying to put the arch-conservative Christians in the atheist camp! If only it were so easy to be completely ignorant of the purported religious preferences of that merry lot though.
